The US soccer media is acting like cheerleaders rather than giving honest analysis. Lalas is talking about England like they are nobodies and thinks it is the England team of 2010. This England is a very different team, with a track record of success in youth world cups and senior tournaments, with probably the deepest pool of talent of any team at the world cup. And just because 3 or 4 players in the US team play for big teams, none of key players to the team, he thinks the US will be competitive against England with 40 players in big teams. If Wales become the 4th team in the group US will be eliminated in the first round and the US media will not be honest about this because they want to promote the game in the US by selling the lie that the US will get out the group comfortably with nothing tangible. You can tell how the world feels about this draw. England moved up to second favourites with the global bookies because people think England will win easy.

Englishman's take: A Full-Strength USA has a lot of potential to finish second. But being at full strength will be key to that. Their qualifying has been riddled with missing players due to injury. Iran are a dangerous side that actually played well in the last tournament all things considered, and any of the European play-off winners are challenging in their own ways. Wales have a quality forward line, Scotland have a hardened mentality that can lead to explosive counter play, and Ukraine have top-quality talent all over the top European leagues. Alexi Lalas deary me. This England squad is very good. As good as any since 1990. In the 2021 Euros, England conceded just 2 goals in 7 games, despite losing on pens to Italy. The depth and talent is exceptional. We have great attacking talent, and we respect every opponent, certainly no snobbery. Haven't won anything since 1966. You have to be honest and I do think the US media is not being completely truthful with their audience. Pulisic being a top five young talent for example. He is a very good younger player but he is 23. I can name 20 players who are younger and better. I really want the US to do well because I want the game to grow over there but if Wales qualify then it should be a straight forward 1: England, 2: Wales. I would place wales third out of the trio. I’d expect Scotland to qualify, although Ukraine have a strong chance. I’d like to see wales there though, and the World Cup always seems to bring the best out of the small nations so they definitely have a chance if they qualify.

the US is in a really tough group, England will finish top and it will be a fight for second, Iran have two quality strikers in Teremi and Azmoun. Wales, Scotland, and Ukraine are also no pushovers either and are all pretty much level in quality on paper with the U.S. so its not going to be easy by any means. On a side note (Group H) is definitely not the group of death we can easily finish top with Uruguay. Ghana has been very poor lately and are not the same team they were 10 years ago. South Korea are managed by a incompetent manager in paulo bento. Now regarding the group of death that goes to Group E.

Have you actually watched football before? England lack creativity? You do realise England were the highest scorers in European qualifying and have players like Sterling, Kane, Foden, Sancho, Mount, Grealish, Saka. The leading assist maker in all of Europe is Alexander Arnold and England player. I have been watched US soccer for 12 years and it seems the US soccer media has whipped up some of you into a delusional frenzy which is why the US media keep using 2010 and reference, which is a completely different team and time. Firstly this US team cannot play defensively because their defence is not good enough and can only play attacking football and that is made for England's style because their creative players will find space to cause havoc. There is a reason in the Euros that Croatia, Scotland, Germany, Denmark all played very defensively against England because England have the attacking players to rip you apart. So the USA who cannot play defensively will be in big trouble against England. And getting two British teams is the worst draw the US could have got because British teams rob the US of their advantage, athleticism because they have better, bigger and tougher athletes and I think the England and likely Wales match will give the USA a less on why pay to play must be abolished.

The US can do well in this world cup but only and only If they can score goals. They must be able to score 2 or 3 goals in each group stage match. If they struggle to create chances and to finish such opportunities, it's going to be a very tough tournament. Many countries that qualified for the first time or that have been absent from the world cup for a while slowly but sadly realize how hard it is to score even one goal in the world cup. So if your attackers have not been delivering, then it's hard to leave the group stages.
