USA State Song: Kansas - Home on the Range

"Home on the Range" is a classic western folk song, sometimes called the "unofficial anthem" of the American West. The lyrics were originally written by Dr. Brewster M. Higley of Smith County, Kansas in a poem entitled "My Western Home" in the early 1840s to 1927 and 1940s. In 1947, it became the state song of the U.S. state of Kansas. In 2010, members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.

For Colorado should I do Rocky Mountain High or Where the Columbines Grow? The state has two Offical state songs, but I don't know which one is preferred. I'd assume Rocky Mountain High because it's one of the most famous folk songs in America but it's almost 5 minutes long, which will take a long time to do

As a Coloradoan, I would suggest Where the Columbines Grow because It's been the state's official anthem since 1915. As a heads up, there are also other states with multiple official anthems such as, but not limited to: Florida, New Hampshire, Tennessee, and West Virginia

I live in Wisconsin and Kansas living has always been a dream of mine. So peaceful and the land going to the horizon is so humbling. I'd love to live in a small town on the plains and integrate into a community where everyone knows everyone and the nearest town is 30 miles or so away. I'm the opposite from most people in my age group who want to live in big cities. Cities seem so drag and dystopian to me.

@@tony10980 yeah. I'm not a fan of cities, either. I don't live in a completely country area, but I enjoy having cow farmers as neighbors (one next to my house and one across the street) and having fairly wide spacing between all neighbors. I also VERY much enjoy how much more peaceful it is around where I live and watching the sunset over the grassy pasture is the icing on the cake. I hope you are able to at least visit one day if not move to Kansas. I'm so glad that at least some one I've talked to on the internet likes Kansas. there are a lot of city people.

I lived in Goodland Kansas for about 4 years total. I got an experience of a lifetime and met some great people. In spite of it being flat and not much to do in the way of big city things it has it's own entertainment unlike anywhere else I've been. Storm spotting/chasing was an awesome experience. I can now say I've been in an EF 1 tornado, got to see weather that was unreal intense. The winters are harsh snowy and cold. Even that was amazing.
