For all the people badmouthing the US, saying the USA team is nothing but Indians, that is largely who plays this sport in the USA. Cricket in the US is an ethnic sport that is also barely in its infancy as a professional sport. I'm not sure what people here are honestly expecting. As Major League Cricket slowly grows and exposes the sport to a wider U.S. audience, that would hopefully expand the sport beyond the Subcontinent and British Commonwealth diasporas already living in the US.

I agree with you in part. Although I think it is mostly jokes, people have to realize that cricket is a sport that just doesn't have any sort of following here except amongst the Indian population. And the Indian population is something like 1% of the total population. So for cricket to find inroads in the US, it's s going to be a tall order. I remember people saying similar things about football/ soccer back during the 1994 World cup....that given time, the sport would find widespread play and acceptance, and all that needed to happen was the large pool of talent among schoolchildren just needed to be tapped. Here we are 30 years later though...and while the needle has moved, it still hasn't moved very much in terms of the domestic game. Interest in the sport has grown, but the on field product is...mediocre. Cricket has a loooooong way to go in this country, but I really don't think it's going to go further than the Indian diaspora. There's just too much money in the other sports for kids to take an interest in something like cricket.
