To see McEnroe, Borg and Connors taking that moment to say goodbye to him is very touching.

Nastase wrote in his book that Vitas was a close friend, when they were in New York during the summer, Nastase wanted to buy a cell phone and they found one in a shop and Vitas bought the phone for Nastase, as a present. The next day Nastase flew back to France and he went to sleep after the long flight, he woke up because of the phone, the first call he received on that phone. It was an american journalist to tell him that Vitas had died, Nastase could hardly believe it, the first call on the phone bought by his friend

Three of the greatest tennis players of all time locked arm-in-arm in sadness and grief for the individual in the casket behind them. The story of Vitas Gerulaitis screams for a quality documentary. RIP forever, Vitas.

Moments like this remind us of our capacity as human beings to touch so many people. Sometimes we think it takes so much or so many but one person can have a profound effect on the world and many people. This fact always puts me in awe.

@Barry Baz Exactly. Yeah he did have well documented substance abuse problems before he died but by all accounts he had cleaned himself up at the time of his death. The worst luck and carelessness was was killed him, not anything he had had actually done to himself. Anyone who had been sleeping in that room that night would have died.
