Not only china upgraded their equipment since then. Plus that was a proxy war not a full scale war between china and the us. No one wants to mess with the full power of the us army alone. Experience is crucial too. very few chinese soldiers have war experience nowadays, unlike the us army who fought several wars not that long ago. They have new war doctrines and strategies based on theese experiences. They have the knowledge to be succesful in a modern conflict. The meaning of war changed a lot since the war between china and vietnam. Second russian invasion of ukraine is a great example. I wish that theese two countries will not fight tough. There would be a lot of deaths for both sides that's for sure. There's no such land on the earth wich worth the end of many human lifes.

The US has the largest military spending in th world with China in second place and the only one coming remotely close to spending as much. The US has more combat experience but they have mostly been fighting enemies who use guerrilla warfare tactics this would be the first enemy in a long time that has a full arsenal. China has not fought a war in decades and has mostly set up defenses with the largest rocket arsenal in the planet and their navy is bigger but its older models and a few aircraft carriers. But the US still carriers more fire power in their navy so in a open battle at sea they would win but China navy is more defensive and supported with said rocket arsenal. The strategy seems to be to make the the attack as costly as possible because the US should be able to push through the problem is going to cost them a lot.

Overall US just has a strong aviation and that is about it, but with countries like Russia or China it would not help them a lot, since they have advanced air defensees. 不得不承认美国确实很强，但是你要知道，中国自建国到现在，还没有超过一百年，而且中国真正开始发展经济的时候大概在1980年左右，距今不到五十年。发展中国家和发达国家不能作比较，美国现在是有钱没地方花，而中国现在还在处理一部分人民的温饱问题。
