Best day of my life was watching this game with my brother when he battled cancer. We we're both huge soccer fans and didn't know if he'd make it through the World Cup that year. We went to our local soccer bar and were overjoyed when Dempsey scored that go ahead goal. It's one of the last memories I had with him as he died not long after this.

It was a devastating blow to the team's psyche, they just weren't the same after this. Against Germany and Belgium, it was like they had lost their confidence, and that carried through to the 2018 qualifiers as well. When they were leading 2-1 in the final seconds, moments away from back to back world cup wins, that was the apex of the Jurgen Klinsmann era. Everything sadly went downhill after that.

He also lost to Guatemala twice and Jamaica as well. His tactics were so bad that the players had to plead with him to change them when even they knew his strategy wasn't working. I feel like him and Gregg have a lot of similarities. Both great "technical directors" but incompetant once camp actually starts.

Jurgen actually had good game management as opposed to Gregg Fraudhalter who doesn’t even know a LB from a RB and who his best defenders and midfielders are. Jurgen would crush top teams with this new generation of USMNT players.

Jurgen had an old washed up unmotivated group of players, he didn’t have the hungry talent we now have in our pool. Watching CONCACAF matches after 2014 was horrid, the players simply didn’t look like they wanted to play or were just not good enough. Bradley was the root of the problem later on, and that’s the only blame I still put on Jurgen, for still building around him when he was way past finished.

This was really the game that ended our world cup. The US was not the same after this. We had finally exorcised our Ghana demons and were about to get our second straight win and go into the Germany game with all the confidence in the world. Our defense is so very bad. Came out this year as well. All 3 Dutch goals came from unmarked players. It's encouraging though because international greatness is on the horizon if we improve our play on that half of the field. That said, ronaldo's cross was video game level perfection. Nothing to complain about USA defense there. He put that ball on a literal dime with immense pace
