The agenda was to remove the Iraqi regime, not to conquer and destroy the country and its civilians. Had the latter been the agenda, it would’ve been over within weeks. The US military has the ability to annihilate any opposition with their numerical and technological advantages. What stops then from doing that is the concern of civilian casualty, and damaging the infrastructure that could cause a massive collapse of their economy. How many billions of dollars has the US poured back into Iraqi economy in order to help build it back up? If the U.S. was to use WWII tactics, Iraq would’ve been leveled within weeks, literally leveled. That’s the reality. The U.S. Air Force alone would bring a country to their knees. Once they control the skies, what’s going to stop them from bringing in their bombers and wiping out every major city, power plants, manufacturing plants, water treatment plants, distribution centers, and military bases? That’s just to name a few targets that would collapse a countries ability to function. You remove certain infrastructures of a country, and you remove the will of the people to fight soon after. It’s very difficult to take down an enemy when it’s flying at 10,000’ above your head and it’s dropping a crap load of bombs, missiles, and other ordnance. My point is, you might have a desire to protect your family and take up arms, but it’s hard to protect them from an aggressor that you can’t touch. How do you provide for your family if famine becomes a major issue?
