Before I was born (1962) we had a family friend who was an ambulance driver (basic first aid knowledge and a resuscitator ) and he said the thing he saw most in his era was people impaled on steering column. He died in 61 cutting someone out of a car on its side when the door closed and crushed his head .

And It's not the speedometer you check. It's the odometer. Speedometers only measure speed. The odometer measures distance.

@@argosaristos I think they deliberately said speedometer as quite a lot of ignorant people don't know what an odometer is, they just call the whole meter a speedometer, especially in those early days when this video was made.

most people consider them the same thing. if they had said odometer most people wouldn't know what the hell they were talking about. car guys know yes you're correct but the general population don't know the odometer isn't the speedometer.

Extinguish all ignition sources immediately after an auto accident, then about a minute later they are light flares right next to the damaged cars. A serious error in a safety film.

The narrator strictly prohibits the moving of injured victims while on the screen, 3 men lift the young man and place him on pieces of cardboard on the side of the road. Then when the two ambulance attendants pick up the guy, they lift and carry him less carefully and smoothly than the supposedly untrained men who did it first.

The bystanders did a better job than the Ambulance drivers. Training such as c spine protection and all medical and trauma protocols did not start for the most part until the 1970's after a few area's like Jacksonville, Miami, Baltimore, Seattle L.A. County and a few other locations. Up till then Ambulances were mostly run by funeral homes who often took the dead before the injured for profits,

Be more astounded not just at the lack of seat belts but also at the lack of disc brakes (at least in the front) and the steering wheel columns that impaled people, the air bag was over 2 decades away as an option but the aforementioned items were already invented.
