Usb Microscope Modification. Increase Working Distance. Focusing Distance Hack.

Interesting mod. Why you don't show the mod result as it will show on your PC? I think it would be interesting to see the actual increase in working distance, even though at expense of a reduction of the magnification.

I have a couple of videos about the microscope and a couple of others in which I use it to repair things. Like ipad pro. Price/performance wise I am very pleased but the video quality is poor. Polarisation is the biggest problem because when you have flux or solvent on the board you see nothing but reflections.

@ try to build a polarized lamp ;) you only need a old damaged lcd display from exp. a laptop (best a verry old one with cold cathode tubes)...take out the polarisation filter and use it for lamp. then make a little filter for the cam ;) good luck!!!!! veryy well done:)....,a new subscriber.

@@anonhollmuller4032 Funny coincidence. I just did what you told me. I alredy knew that lcd displays has polarizing films on them but i didnt know that i could peel it off. Around two days ago there was a broken tv on the street. Took it apart to salvage the circuit boards. Then just because i was curious i take a closer look at the lcd panel. Looked like there was a layer which i can peel. Pried one corner with my knife and yes it was indeed a polarizer film which you can peel. I did a very crude job of peeling it but i have the polarizer film. Now i can use it to have polarized lights. Next time when i see a broken tv i will also take the lcd with me. I think with some heat the whole film can peel off without getting damaged.

@ that is why i sayed a old one....there is no glue between the display and the filter...you just need to open and take the plastc sheets out. in most cases there are 3 layers . one is just for refract the light even over the space, one is the polarizer , the 3rd on i do not know . sorry for my poor english !

i took mine apart to do this modification, but to my suprise now they made changes to do this mod with no destruction. they changed the soldered pins to little screws so the board comes out and back in very easily. and instead of the press-fit tube, they put the lens on a fine plastic thread so you can just screw it in farther and reassemble everything with no soldering or cutting. part of the amzon title is Jiusion 40 to 1000x Magnification Endoscope for the one i got. with enough light you are easily able to focus on any distance(up to like 20 feet) with it threaded all the way in, although the quality does go down a lot with less light and more distance.

Nice to see something got easier for a change. I am now using a full hd one but nothing can beat the price performance of these after you modify them

What was the working distance before mod compared to the distance after mod? Basically the working distance gained from this modification? Tha

before if was unusable for repairs because nothing will fit between the microscope and the table. Check other videos for the result after mod

READ THIS BEFORE OPENING YOUR DEVICE: There is chance that you can achieve the same result without opening the microscope. Remove the transparent cylinder at the bottom. Increase the zoom/magnification to maximum by turning the silver knob to the right. That way the pointy tip of the microscope should come out at the bottom and you should also be able to see it's plastic thread. Now you can reach the tip with you fingers (make sure they are clean just in case) and twist the tip in, as much as u want. The more you twist it in, the higher the working distance but also the further away your LEDs are and the therefore the image quality decreases. You might want to use a second light source then. Which method works depends an what generation of these devices you have. If you have to open it anyways, make sure no dust gets onto the sensor and inside the optics! I didn't know any of that. When I noticed I didn't have to open it at all it was too late. I put everything back together and then noticed stains on my image. Dust got inside the microscope. I opened everything again and cleaned the sensor and the glass and put everything back together just to realize that made it worse. Invisible dust particles and fibres from my tissue always remained on the sensor. 15 tries and lots of new tissues later I got lucky. Finally I got an acceptable result but the image is still not as good as it was before and maybe I also removed an important coating with that... It took me 3 hours to do something that takes 5 minutes, but I am still thankful for this video! Without it, I would never have known, that I can increase the working distance at all and would have sent it back as it is. So thank you and greetings from Vienna 👋🏻

They all have slightly different designs or manufacturing differences. Take it apart and experiment

If the pcb is removed from the two metal rods that hold it in place and these rods also are powering the leds of the microscope and place extension pieces in both of them so when the pcb with the ccd camera is soldered back then will have a longer distance from the lens and this also will increase the focusing distance also.Next i will experimenting with this to test it.

If you do it let me know the result. You can also make a video. Other people can see the result also.

I'm guessing this mod while increasing focus distance also will effect the magnification minimum and maximum unless the lens is not changed at all for where it is set in the tube and that extra cut off was just left there for no reason.. maybe to save on manufacturing cost or to calibrate the magnification to exact levels?

Since i am using it to check solder joints and small electronic components magnification wasnt a problem. I didnt even realize any difference if there was any. I have no technical explanation but when it comes to manufacturing i expect anything which may make no sense to us from a logical point. Motor oil marketed as fully synthetic in USA can not be marked as fully synthetic in Europa for example.... Same oil. One says its fully synthetic the other says it is not... So there can be a technical reason or the reason can be regulations, manufacturing/marketing problems....

I dont think you can find a replacement lens for these cheap microscopes. If you need to change lenses you can perhaps try a microscope with C Mount lenses?

@@orazioschreiner5626 if you go into my channel and search microscope or mikroskop in my videos you can see other videos about this usb microscope and the repair videos which i used it. One such video is the Ipad Pro repair. As far as i understood magnification is much more than those expensive hdmi microscopes. Resolution is the main problem. If you can find a real 720p or 1080p usb microscope let me know.
