Rena Quint was six years old when she was imprisoned at Bergen Belsen concentration camp and separated from her father. In her USC Shoah Foundation testimony, Rena reflects on what she remembers of her experience in the camp, life after the war, and years of searching for answers about her family and history.

That hurt when she said she couldn’t picture her mother or father in her mind nor knew what happened to her father. So devastating

A remarkable story of survival and given with such clarity. One of the most concise I have listened to. Beautiful grandchildren.

This is the first testimony out of several that brought out the tears because she reminds me of my mother who lost her family when she was very young and had nobody but her twin brother who she could hug through the fence, getting two biscuits with gravy for a days food rations and that was on a poor farm in Bonham, Tx in the 20's I can't even imagine what the German's did to those poor people.

Another great interview, thank you. When I see the survivors showing photos of their kids & grandkids, it always makes me think that they wouldn’t be here if their relative hadn’t survived. I know that’s obvious but you can hear how proud she is of all her family. Bless them all.

"Ty så älskade GD världen all, att Han utgav sin enfödde Son, " JESUS från Nasaret..."för att RÄDDA Världen" Inte för att förfölja, fånga skada, döda någon enda.....utan för att RÄDDA Läs eller Lyssna till BIBELN så KAN du komma artt förstå... this was a wonderful testimony from Rena, what a fabulous lady, I love how she spoke about her many mothers within the camp, how wonderful that so many took care of her, i love how she was adopted by a wonderful couple who loved her and helped her become who she is today. her wonderful husband who so obviously adores her, and her fabulous children and grandchildren, what a truly wonderful legacy to those who perished that they will never be forgotten by this wonderful generation of grandchildren. a truly inspiring testimony, i have no doubt renas parents and brothers are looking down on this beautiful family with great pride and gratitude for their daughters survival.

I watched a documentary about kids that are extremely abused or not loved on. The girl said that she was one of 7 or 8 kids and the parents had extreme religious beliefs along with a insane way of raising the kids. The kids started getting whipped at as young as 6 months old. The weren’t allowed to cry. She said it was the most strange thing that her baby sibling wouldn’t cry if the woke up or had a dirty diapers or any of the things the normal children would cry for. They beat the crying out of the babies, she said her sibling would just lay their eyes wide open and wouldn’t make a sound. It’s really sad but kids learn how to survive even in the most grim circumstances.

Same age as my polish mother. She was orphaned. We still dont know mothers story. My father british SS located belsen bergen camp on reconnaisance WW2...his account was recently verified to me by his regiment. I dont recall he entered or liberated but know for sure his small team came across the camp unexpectadley while in a reconnaisance explosives task ahead of following troops

One correction: her father-in-law was also born in Poland. Pińsk was a Polish city, not a Russian one. Pińsk was simply on a Polish territory under the Russian occupation at the time her father-in-law was born. Poland was divided and occupied by Russia, Austria, and Germany between 1772-1918. This period in history is called the partitions of Poland.

Even her tone of voice is incredible fifteen minutes in talking about her Mother being taken away and gassed and herself being hidden and hungry having some pox etc. Perhaps because there was so much suffering it seemed common and "normal". Gabor Mate has talked about collective trauma of all the Jew babies during and after the war in Europe too since he was one of them in Hungary.

I don’t understand how a survivor of the holocaust could thank god for keeping them alive. It seems like an insult to all the others that were tortured and killed. Why didn’t god keep them all alive? What kind of a god is that that picks and chooses who will live?
