Viofo A119 Mini 2 Review - V3 Killer?

I have three A119 mini dash cams that I like and work very well. I have a fourth vehicle that needs a cam and will be getting this new mini 2 for it. I also on plan on buying 3 new mini 2’s to swap out last year’s minis, and move them to the rear glass. Thanks for the side by side comparison with the V3.

The A119 V3 has given me reliable service in all my vehicles. I think the mini 2 will be a good upgrade. 👍

the a119 mini 1 had over heating issues.. do we know if they delt with that for mini #2

It costs +30% or more than the V3. Of course it's better. Great review, not just a paid-ad review like so many seen on YT and elsewhere, and showing us the camera's settings, how it reacts to voice commands, ... Good one.

Good review. We have two duos: A229Pro and A129Pro for our cars but the Mini2 voice command could cause me to replace 129 but dual cameras is a nice feature. Mini2 video looks very sharp! Might have to get one for my mom’s car 😂

A229Pro has not been released yet. Maybe A229 Duo which is 2K front + 2K rear.

With the right fuse tap adapter you can hardwire to the fuse-box or car battery more cams. So you can have for example a 1-channel cam at the front, another 1-channel cam at the rear. This enables you to have a 2-channel setting, while still choosing independently two cams.

There is no rear cam....would you recommend getting two then? One for the front and one for the rear? I was considering the Mini for the front and the V3 for the rear. Thanks for any advice. 😊

It's just a other option, many people don't like devices that listen. You can turn voice commands off.

This looks great, thanks for the video to show details. One of the things that i've always looked for, but rarely find, is a cam that mounts just like this does, but will let you adjust it quickly to point in a different direction, so for example if you get pulled over- the police are recording you, i think people should be recording as well. Nothing against law enforcement, it would just be good to be able to adjust the camera when needed..

My issue is in my opinion all the best cameras are fixed to only look forward. There are some cameras that have separate interior cameras tho. Viofo has a huge discount on their 3 channel camera, the T130. It's not as popular as the A129 or A139 which is probably why it's discounted so heavily. amzn.to/3NWK7Jo

I have the v3 since 2020 and now with mini need to run a USB-C cable so that's a negative but I'm sure the other features will make up for it.

I know there is a problem with overheating! How do I tell the difference between the ones that were originally made and the improved ones? how do I know that the store that sells my camera has the new, improved version in stock?

I have not heard of overheating issues. I just recommend buying from a reputable seller such as Amazon or direct from Viofo.

I just put one in my minivan. It seems to work fine. The app does not work with CarPlay on. You have to disconnect from CarPlay, turn on WiFi on the mini, connect your phone to the Viofo network, then run the app. Then, when you are done, disconnect from the Viofo network on your phone, and turn CarPlay back on in the vehicle. You only do that if you want to download a video or change the Mini settings with your phone (which can be done directly on the Mini using the tiny screen).

how do does it handle extreme weather? I live in chicago and winter gets into negative degrees and summer gets over 100 degrees.

The device uses supercapacitor so it should be just fine in extreme temperatures both cold or hot

I have the V3 for over 2 years and I have never taken the card out... Should I reformat...? 🤔 I did buy the new mini during prime days (really good deal) and I am thinking the V3 will move to the back window... 😊

Regularly reformatting the card will prolong the health of the card. Once a month is ideal, but it will certainly benefit from reformatting now 😊

when starting, I see that it has a delay of approx. 15 seconds until it starts to actually record. the moment of stopping does not appear in the video: does it sound when stopping?

$120 vs $80. I'm not sure the Mini 2 is worth a 50% price increase. I installed a V3 on my daughter's car and am now looking to install either the V3 or a Mini 2 on my own vehicles. Not sure which.

Nope the app is free, there is no subscription fee either. The only dash cam apps that cost money are cameras with cloud services such as BlackVue and Ring.

Yes. It's better. Also because a 1-channel camera will record at a fairly higher bitrate than a 2-channel, and 3-channel systems record with low bitrate, that is, low real video and detail quality. That's why a usually 3-channel 139 or, now, 229 Pro will give you lower video quality than a single channel A119 Mini 2 or even A119 V3. You can use two 1-channel cameras, both hardwired to the fuse box, to get a 2-channel system with 1-channel system video quality and detail.

The deciding factor will be pricing. At the time of this comment, the V3 is a couple dollars more than the Mini 2.

Yes, any camera that is an actual dash camera will automatically record over the oldest footage. Action cameras like GoPros are typically different even in their looping mode so I always recommend a true dash camera.
