In this video, I show how I use a pallet to create some mechanical advantage to uproot a dead plant in my yard. I also use a 5 to 1 block and tackle for added leverage.

This is not how one gets mechanical advantage from levers. This is merely a change in direction. To obtain mechanical advantage from a lever it requires the pulling force to be in a different place on the lever from the load force. If you put the chain to the plant half way up the lever and were pulling from the top of the lever you would get about a 2:1 advantage.

I guess I didn't explain it well enough in the video. You can think of this setup as 2 wheels with different radii that both turn around the same axle, which is the base of the pallet. If you place the base of the pallet 1 ft away from the plant, that radius is 1 ft. If the pallet is 3 ft tall, the other radius is 3 ft. When you apply a force to the 3 ft radius, the force will be multiplied by 3 at the 1 ft radius.
