I use a Minolta light meter with my Pentax Spotamatic SP2 it works better than the camera light ,meter

you need to spend a lot more time with your Pentax before explaining why would someone need a spotmetre to start with! i encourage you to practice with a banal digital camera using the P mode. this is the fastest way to understand how this amazing tool works. and the hole concept of reflected light on objects. best of luck

Yes this method is working for a lot of people i would think. The spotmeter is more for someone that likes to take some time. It really is mostly about the process for me. It helps me with thinking about the Shot. Of corse you cud get there as well with just taking some Shoots. How ever you do it, if you have fun wile working with your camera, its good work! I dont really think that a spotmeter is something that someone needs to start with. But it really alredy was a good teacher for me. Cheers!
