This was so helpful. I managed to get a 67mm Canon closeup filter on ebay and looking forward to trying out your technique.

I loved your sample images Don! In case any of your viewers can’t find the Canon 500D, Nisi do a nice one which is available in 77mm and another smaller size (maybe 55mm). I got the larger one myself as it fits all but my Sony 200-600mm. Like you said, it’s a great way to carry macro facilities without the weight and bulk of a separate lens. Looking forward to your next video Don 👍

Thanks Stephen, I'm not familiar with the Nisi diopter but it looks good on first glance, thanks for the tip! I've put a link to that product in the description.

Hi Don, One final question> While using the close up lens 500D, does it matter if I leave the focusing distancing at infinity or should I switch to the closer distance. Thanks!
@DonMammoserPhoto2 жыл бұрын
You'll want to always manually focus at the closest distance your lens allows. Then it becomes a case of moving in tiny increments back and forth from your subject to find the exact focus, then shoot.

Hi Don, Does the Canon 77mm 500d close-up lens work with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens as well? I've been using it on the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L is II USM at the moment. Thank you. and thanks for the great videos

Hi Robert, As long as the close-up filter fits properly on the end of a lens it will work. It may not always give lifesize 1:1 ratios but it will still allow that lens to focus closer. There's never any harm in putting it on and trying it out - see if you like it and if it works for you.
