Use & benefits of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) after a spinal cord injury - March 27, '21

In this session, we will discuss Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). FES involves the application of electrical stimulation to a variety of muscle groups during a functional task such as riding an arm or leg cycle. We will discuss the current FES machines that are available and the differences between each of them and the benefits of using FES including its impact on cardiovascular function, circulation, bone density and muscle tone/spasticity after spinal cord injury. An overview of the referral process and insurance coverage will be briefly discussed as well as access to the machines in the community.
