Today's demo was inspired by my video posted last week that use only PAYNE'S GREY to paint a landcsape (linked below if you haven't seen it yet). I began to wonder if SEPIA would work in a similar way!
So today I use Cotman brand SEPIA to paint this scene. It's a great exercise for practicing mixing a full range of tonal values from the lightest lights to the darkest values. I add a sprinkle of ordinary fine table salt to the damp paint in the foreground with creates really pretty suggestions of flowers and grasses etc.
My paper is Saunders Waterford HOT PRESS with a lovely smooth surface which takes the paint nicely. Use any large wash brush or similar brushes to those I use.

I Agree, look like lots of us fancy this approach! It helps us to work with and develop practice with tonal values! As one colour only to explore - avoids distractions with a full pallet! Keep doing such examples in various one colour paintings . Thank Lois 🖌️ Greetings from Portugal
