Funny how years ago Nikon, Canon and Leica executives said that mirror less cameras couldn't be taken seriously. I also remember all the Canon and Nikon folks laughing as well. Fast forward time and here we have people salivating over Sony Lenses on their Nikon cameras with Sony sensors. Interesting times.

@@kucekto nope. Use it daily for real estate interiors. And taking it on a destination trip in two weeks to shoot a 3 day event and to shoot some branding sessions. Not worried one bit. I bought mine with my Z8 at my local camera shop after I got tired of waiting for updates on my Sony A1. I figured I could return it if it didn’t work. Instead I bought a second and a Zf to play more. I get lenses from both companies. I agree it’s not as good as the Sony GM on the A1 for percentage of hits, but it’s darn close and I like the Nikon feel and features.

How bad is the battery drain if you leave a Sony lens attached? I'm a casual photographer, so I could go a few days without picking the camera up. Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

It could be great to test the Boryoza adapter to mount Fuji X lenses on Nikon Z cameras. Well, seems like Nikon made a great mount to adapt near everything. There are adapters for Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, Fuji X, all with AF and OIS working. And in theory you could make adapters to mount other systems on Nikon Z, like Canon EF-M, Canon RF, L-Mount, and even M4/3.

Current mirrorless lenses typically relay heavily on in camera lens corrections so the Sony camera does a lot of work to make the lens perform well, but what about this combo?
@Jason_Hermann3 ай бұрын
Great question, the option is in camera for Auto Distortion Control, Diffraction compensation, and Vignette all still appear to be active, but I don't think they actually work when shooting raw which is what I shoot. However, I just tried in jpeg and it did try to adjust for the distortion a little bit so it I'm not sure what data it is using for the correction. In Lightroom when I apply the lens profile correction it comes up as a Nikon lens with the Sony info and the profile does appear to try and correct the image a little, but it's not the same as the Sony lens correction profile when used on a Sony camera. So to answer your question, it appears to try but I don't know how or where it is getting the info to do the actual correction. It must just use the focal length and make an mild guess is my thought.

Wonder how well weather sealed the setup is with a weather sealed Sony attached using the adapter to a Z8. Seems it’s got a tight seal, and with a sealed lens it would be pretty dang good. Thoughts?

What do you mean see it? It's sensor stabilization so it will help with hand holding at slower shutter speeds for example. You photos should be sharper with less hank shake induced blur for example. Harder to tell with wide angle lenses though I would say.

@stefan_becker3 ай бұрын
That is impossible. Sony lenses have a much smaller flange distance. You would have to put them "inside" the camera to make them work, but then there wouldn't be any room left for the mirror.
@javierRcastro8 күн бұрын

@Jason_Hermann3 ай бұрын
Yeah, this one is tight as well as my Metabones adapters. This is normal to stop play between the camera and lens since there are two connection points. Plus the adapter is so thin it is a bit hard to turn effectively with just a few finger tips.

@Jason_Hermann2 ай бұрын
Yes I said that and I was referring to the new mirrorless Z-mount lenses and new Sony E-Mount lenses specifically. Not the legacy DSLR glass which would not work with this adapter.
@AllCarsUnitedАй бұрын
Nikon has nowhere near as many mirror less lenses as Sony. No manufacturer does. Literally every manufacturer and Nikon and Canon user said mirror less cameras were toys and a joke.
@DAVE_WHITE3 ай бұрын
This should be reverse, I would never go back to Nikon after going to Sony, Nikon mirrorless has been a disaster for them to this day their autofocus is still far behind other brands.
@Jason_Hermann3 ай бұрын
Yeah, but because of the flange distance differences, that is not really possible. Plus Sony has more lenses options, so for people that love the Nikon system this is a really awesome option in my opinion. The AF is good enough for most people these days on all the new cameras I would say, with Sony still having the edge in most cases I agree. Canon has the edge in wildlife though based on my experience..

As a former Nikon user, I switched to Sony more than 10 years ago and have used and owned many Sony cameras (A7, A7II, A7rII, A7rIII, A7rIV, A9, A7rV and also Alpha 1). About a month ago I rented a Nikon Z8 and the Nikon 50mm f1.2 S lens (which I didn't really like because it's huge and heavy). I really liked the Z8 though. With firmware 2.0 I consider the Z8 a better camera than the Alpha 1(!). It has a much better display, the ergonomics are also much better (finally a camera that I can really hold well in my larger hands), the menu system is much better, the Z8 also has features like focus bracketing or pre-capture that Sony didn't implement in the Alpha 1. The autofocus is probably even better than the Alpha 1's because it can automatically detect subjects (people, animals, ...). My Alpha 1 was always very bad at detecting birdseye. The video functionality of the Z8 is also great (4k120 and 8k Raw in camera!). I was so impressed that I sold my Alpha 1 (I still have an A7rV though) and bought a Z8 with the Nikon 85mm f1.2 S. A lens that will probably never be available for Sony.
@Jason_Hermann3 ай бұрын
@@stefan_becker I really appreciate you sharing your perspective Stefan and all that matters is what works best for you and your needs. I totally hear ya about the focus stacking and pre-burst features for birds in particular. I just got the Canon R5 Mark 2 to play with and the ergonomics are incredible! Looking forward to putting it thru it's paces in the upcoming weeks... I need a killer RF lens or two though, and all I have currently is the EF 135mm f/2 L Lens, which is awesome optically, but the AF kinda sucks with the adapter on that old lens...
