This bike was something four years ago when you made this video, and it still is today. The R Nine T family prove it. I love them all but the scrambler is my favorite- we can ride it on soft off-road escapades 👌-, Nevertheless it’s another winner for the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer. Although, in this field I also appreciate the Bonneville family by Triumph, they are all excellent choices!

Well, to add to your comment, they started making it in 2014 and there are no plans to stop, they are selling enough to keep production going, which means that it is a good bike, no doubt about that 👍👍

If you get lucky and have a go to the old MT-01, you will experience a crazy crazy engine brake like an anchor! It would be great if you could make a video with that machine!

Thank you very much for your thoughtful review. My question: what mods would you consider to make the bike more to your liking? Perhaps exhaust as you mentioned stock cans sound kind of buzzy?

Good and fair evaluation I have a 21 standard para battery small windshield and two bags I weigh 135 pounds I still get 55 miles to the gallon and travel all day on the 90 I wouldn’t have any other bike keep it up right and ride safe

Don't get it: why do you shift gear without clutching? Does it makes sence? Isn't it bad for the gearbox..?
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 4 жыл бұрын
A quick shifter/auto blipper does the same thing. The only difference is that a computer does it for you. If the human knows how to do it, then it's the same, although the computer will be more consistent at it every time than a human. So no, when done correctly, it does not hurt the gearbox. There are several videos on this subject on youtube by professional motorcycle mags that say the same thing as I do. And why shift without the clutch? It's faster, much faster. MotoGP guys have been doing it since the 90's, so there's 30 years of history to prove it's effective and faster.

Hi Scott, I like your way of presenting motorcycle tests! Recently I ordered a BMW F 900 R with full options. A friend of mine told me that I should have bought a real BMW with a boxer motor. E.g. a R nineT. For some more money I could buy one. My motorcycle history: BMW R1200 C (only several months, not my cup of tea), a BMW F 650 GS (goed, but I wanted more power), a KTM 790 Duke (too wild for me) and now: F900 R (modern) or R nineT (boxer, less gimmicks)? What do you think? Please help me. I'm a 52-years old Christian's client from the PB-region.

Thank you Marcel, You will like the 900R, I love it, it's a great naked bike. AND yes, the 790 is just uncivilized, uncultured, rough around the edges, unrefined. The 900R is everything that the 790 is not. Kind of like two different people with two different personalities. Don't listen to "friends" when choosing a bike, yes, listen to their advice and take it into consideration on a logical level but you have to listen to your heart and what the heart wants, "the heart wants"! it's kind of like choosing a wife, yes you need to be compatible but it's not the only thing that matters. It's the same with bikes. :) Yea, this next year I have a feeling that I'll be buying the Triumph Trident from Christian, for my wife, if it's everything that Triumph is saying it is... Ride safe, Scott

@@NothingToProve Thank you very much, Scott! I still remain in doubt if I need all these technical gadgets or not. You compared the F900 with the KTM, but didn‘t say anything about the (old, air cooled) boxer. You bought a XR and not eg a BMW 1250 RS as a daily bike. Thank you again for your opinion. Greetings from Lippstadt, Marcel

Very nice bike, it was my second choice. Most BMWs are styled like someone threw a bunch of pieces on a frame and where they stuck was the styling. This bike and the Urban are different to me in that they look good. My first choice which I have had for two years was the Triumph Thruxton R - looks great, handles and runs great. I did change the seat. I am very happy with my choice.

Do you find the R nine T is suitable for a 6ft guy, 190lbs. Looking at a used 2015 with 4k miles and not sure if the price offset is worth the risk of buying a used bike
@NothingToProve

Hi Joe, I'm 5'10" and my inseam is 31-32", I was on and off of it for about 2 hours. Probably I can take a max of 4 hours on it and then my legs would start to feel cramped. The other naked bikes in this class have more leg room, i.e. KTM Super Duke, Yamaha MT-10. But if your looking to customize (and look good) and not doing long rides, then the R nineT is the better bike! I suppose you could look into lowering the foot pegs and or raising the seat. If I were you, I'd take it for a test ride to be sure. I thought that I would like it more than I actually did...sorry to say. I really wanted to like this bike, based on it's looks. I love the looks, it is the first BMW that I actually say is a "beautiful" bike.

@@NothingToProve you liked the Moto Guzzi V7 quite a lot it seems by your review. Did you like it better than this bike? I'm looking for a bike like this, considering the Moto Guzzi and also the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, or the Interceptor 650. I'm not going on Long rides. Just a nice Sunday Cruise under 50 miles. I'm 6ft 1in in my inseam is 32 in, what bike out of these do you prefer, or is there another bike then I'm leaving out?

@@TheHomeExpert5 There are plenty of "retro" styled bikes out there today, it really depends on what you are looking for in a bike. If I were looking for a retro bike, I'd consider these and also the Z900RS, CB1000R, XSR900 but the V7 & V9 have a place in my heart that none of the others can fill 😁

Yes. BMW calls it their Heritage lineup. Horizontally opposed boxer engine was their signature look for decades.

I don't like the look of the rear end at all, including the shaft drive. I also think it would benefit from a bikini fairing.
@drdrew3

BMW specifically designed this bike with the aftermarket mods in mind. The “Tidy Tail” is a super popular and inexpensive mod that eliminates everything from the rear seat back. The mini fairing similar to the Urban GS is another one. Then come the bar end mirrors. This model doesn’t usually stay in stock form too long - mine included
