Used Golf Balls, Should You Buy Them?

When I first took up the game about eight and a half years ago, I could expect to lose 3-4 (or sometimes more) golf balls per round. At that time I would buy whatever I could get cheaply: x-outs, used, refurbished, whatever. Since I've retired I've been working 3-5 days a week on my game and have improved considerably. Now it is very uncommon for me to lose a ball and so I've begun buying good balls. I bought two dozen Callaway Superhot 55s with a Christmas gift card and used them the whole season (over 50 rounds). I would say for the beginner or hacker, used balls are an excellent idea, but once your game has become a little more established, you'll find the uniformity of new, brand name balls much more appealing.

I buy mine used, mint or AAAA, usually Titleist NXT Tour or Tour S. The aaa are worth for practice sessions. The mint and aaaa are very close to new, you can never tell that they are used. I use Golf Ball Planet and they are based in Canada. They never made mistakes or never had any issues with them. I have been using them since 2012.

Idk if you have but you should try a ball wit a urethane cover it really helps around the greens

I find and sell used ball too, and i never ask for such high prices. A Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1 x is a buck, and most of the other balls go for between 15 and 35 cents except for Calloway Chrome. You should not be paying so much in my opinion.

Just a tip from an old man.....look for lost golf balls at night using a flash light. They will pop out at you where in the daylight they couldn't be seen. I always look to the right side as that is where a slicer will hit it. A bonus.....the worst golfers hit the best and newest balls and they will slice every one. Guaranteed!

JR , use a uv Blacklight and all the ball will glow and easily find yellow one too

Just spent half hour putting on carpet every type of ball in my bag to find the one I like the feel of best. First I sorted by softness...I didnt look at make or model before or after, just hit and put in soft or not piles. After was shocked to see a ProV1 in both the soft feel and hard feel pile. Only the ProV1 refurbished(what I normally use) was in the hard feel pile and a "stock" ProV1 in the soft category. I next putted the ProV1, Prov1 refurb, and a Top-Flight blah blah distance whatever X-out. The refurb ProV felt almost identical to the cheapest golf ball you could buy and worlds apart from a new ProV1. I started thinking about this when I seen a review of a few different balls and the reviewer remarked on how soft the ProV1 felt, and I thought that wasnt my impression of them at all....thus the test. I find the Wally World ProV1 refurbished balls suspect at best....

I ordered mint prov1's from a supplier in Australia and they look brand new with no logo's etc. I bought 20. I don't see how you can go too wrong. At $1.70 per ball I'm very happy.

Bought a extendable ball grabber on Amazon. I've recovered about 150 balls, most callaway and titleist. 150 balls for 19$ isn't too bad. Ita actually kind of fun grabbing balls, washing and sorting them lol

No clue how $$ difference stacks up, but Dr Mulligan is another website I personnally use / like results - esp for super minty used balls. Not the cheapest, but I never get logos, penmarks, or scuffs on 1st grade ones. I'm not any sort of employee, just good results. Hope that helps!

It doesn't matter if you hit garbage balls or top of the line balls, what matters is to play the same type of ball through your round. It gives you consistency. I learned that from a tour pro 25 years ago.....and he was correct. You will never look in my bag and see a hodge-podge of balls. It makes a big difference. Play well my friends and hopefully my words shaved a couple strokes off somebody's game which I think is the way to Heaven.

Hey there over the pond, I'm from germany and I'm a private golfplayer and hunter finding between 2500 and 4000 balls per season and I'll ship masurements of 200 pieces or more in the EU. Nike's of this shape I usually gave away for 30 to 60 euro cents depends on the customer.

Water balls are worthless. They hit a lot shorter than new balls. The covers absorb moisture. Good for practice or water holes.

I play them all the time. They fly just as far. The plastic used for the cover is the same plastic they use for waterproofing.

I buy used golf balls all the time . Do a bit of research on who you buy them from and you won't have any issues. Buy used one's...don't buy "recycled/refinished"

Don't buy ever.....you have no idea the condition they were in. were they found in a pond....yes golf balls can get water logged....better off just buying a case. If you have a simulator or something in your house maybe....but to play on a course....why would you ever want to bring doubt into the game.
