My neighbor bought a used motorized bike for $50.00 and it was a MESS!
I offered to repair it for free, but did I succeed?
Here are a few of the many things you might step into if you buy a used motorized bike.
We upload motorized bike videos every week (sometimes more)!
FAQs:
Oil: 32:1, semi synthetic, random brands.
Gas: 87oct
Spark Plug: NGK B8HS (yd-100), NGK B6HS (pk80)
Parts: I buy mostly from Amazon.
Favorite Motor: Zeda (Firestorm) Triple 40
Favorite Carburetor: NT Speed
Favorite Bike For A Motor: Huffy Cranbrook

Looks like a fair deal for $50.....I see lot's of shysters on Craigslist & FB marketplace buying a $130 engine kit and putting it on a used $25 bike=$155. Then trying to sell it to someone (a kid) for $500 hoping the buyer doesn't realize they need lots of work to stay running. If I get another engine kit I'll sell mine for what I have invested in it but it'll have a balanced crank, ported/polished case & jug.

It’s so true, even when the person you’re helping….in my case, my son. Loved getting him into the hobby. I do allow him to tinker and explore with making adjustments, but it comes with a price. “Dad, why is it 4 cycling again?” Love it!!!! Turns out, the spark plug had like no gap! Naturally he must of had dropped it. & forgot to check the plug’s integrity. Lol.

Hey LA ... next time you run into that issue with sealed bearings instead of ordering them and having to wait for them you can take the old one's and go to your local industrial supply house and 99% of the time they will have them and that goes for the other bearings in your motor...they are way better bearings and cheaper..

Regarding flat tires. I built my bike about 5 years ago. Within a week I had 2 flats commuting to work. I then filled with some tire slime, just a few seconds worth pushing slime into the tube so not that much, and I've never had a flat since in 4,000 miles.

@LAHover
@LAHover 2 жыл бұрын
Clamping style hub adapters on anything other than a coaster brake hub will slip and bend spokes. If you do have a coaster hub you can use one, but I recommend adding a set screw or woodruff key between the hub and adapter. I use the stock sprocket adapter on most of my bikes.

From my experience, you always pop a couple tires during your first week with the bike, especially with 700c that’s what I have too, looking to upsize it soon. Takes some time to get used to the weight and what the bike can handle with the extra weight and torque from the engine.

@LAHover
@LAHover 5 ай бұрын
In the motorized bike market, I've observed a general trend. In most cases, once a motor is added to a bike, its original value tends to become irrelevant, except for a few specific niche scenarios and custom builds. Those with the expertise to build and modify bikes often prefer to create their own, while those less knowledgeable about them may try to negotiate lower prices. Furthermore, additional add-ons and customizations don't seem to significantly impact their resale value. Realistically, I'd consider myself fortunate to fetch $300 for the build, but I'd expect closer to $200 in most cases. Also note: Selling a gas bike should include blunt disclaimers about legality, and liability.

Easy first bike builds, The Kent Bayside, and Huffy Lockland. would be my first picks. The Roadmaster Granite Peak is an easy build too, but you may need to cute out the center of the air box (easy and wont hurt anything) to make it fit. The Huffy Cranbrook is super easy to build on as well, but you NEED to know how to readjust the rear wheel bearings after you install the sprocket, and add rim brakes. the coaster brake on the Cranbrook can fail under hard braking, so I would add rim brakes. ALWAYS REMOVE THE FENDERS on any bike you get they are dangerous! Best value motor I see right now is the Wild Cat PK80 from californiamotorbikes.com/shop The Seeutek pk80 on amazon is a good motor too. Or the Silver Slant from bicycle-engines.com
