I bought an Astra G 1.7 DTI 17 years ago and still drive it. I fix what needs fixing and drive. The car is in operation every day. That car is from 2004. So far, it has traveled about 390,000 km...

i feel like this comunity is so so much bigger than it seems but so little of them care for making videos on thier issues or even how to do mods on them im in love with them and getting one soon and want to make vidoes on simple issues and also mods i have alot of friends that also enjoy them and have the same issue trying to find detailed videos on that sort of stuff

Hey, here’s some stuff I saw on these (and on our Astra G): 1. Lights getting fog inside 2. gasoline leaking (only once, got repaired, but happened on fast road so it was actually a bit dangerous) 3. doors not locking properly due to cables or sth breaking inside 4. doors not opening due to hardening oils 5. rust (not always that bad, there’s good and bad ones, and you can’t always see all the rust) 4. certain colours fading away 5. at least the lower powered older caravans are loud when driving fast 6. the fabric covering the roof on the inside loosening and "falling down" 7. radio not working properly in summer (either completely won’t work or just display won’t work, but works again in autumn, winter, spring) 8. timing belt breaking That’s all the stuff I know so far. Not all of it happened to us, just some stuff and it’s actually ok. We never really had problems with something breaking in the engine. Overall I think they‘re pretty reliable if you get one in good condition and give it the love it deserves. Maybe I‘ll get myself my own one as my first car… I really really like them. 🥲

This is a fairly good video but next time keep it more concise, focus on horsepower. Torque displacement and problems of each motor

1 Family 0 - 1.2/1.4L 16v bucket cams with timing chain. GM had faulty timing chains at this period and this model suffered. The body is heavy (1.3t) and these models are underpowered. 2- Family 1 1.4/1.6L (old) 8v lifters with timing belt. Like the earlier version, these would suffer from head gasket failure between cylinders 2 and 3, which were siamesed. Overall, they were fairly reliable. 3- Family 1 1.6/1.8L 16v bucket cam with timing belt These were fitted with a faulty timing belt which was too small. They must be replaced every 60,000 km without fail. 4. Family 2 2.0/2.2L 16v bucket cam with timing chain. These also had the faulty timing chains which GM produced in the period, In addition, they have an alloy block with cast iron sleeves. If the engine overheats the sleeves stretch the block and the enigne is ruined. Other common problems are the crankshaft sensor, prone to clogging and failing. On earler models the coils on the more modern engines were on the rocker cover and would shake to bits. later thye wre moved to a heat sink next to the inlet manifold - if the sump cover was lost the engine would stall when going through a puddle as it would splash the coils.

Sorry, but there are some false data. The 1.2 16 v had first 65hp and later on 75hp. And the 1.6 8v had 75hp and the later version 84hp.
