Surprised there was not a "check" to evaluate the state of the battery. How much has it deteriorated? It's overall health, range deterioration, etc.
@tesbros
@tesbros Жыл бұрын
The best way that I've found to figure that out is to look at the range at 100%. Take that number and divide it by whatever the range is supposed to be, and you'll get the percentage of degradation. For example, my Model Y in the video right now has 318 and it's supposed to have 320, so I divided that and I see that it has a 0.99% degradation.

Other than that battery test, you can do other things to check health. See what the car has at 100% charge and what it was originally rated for. Do the math to figure out the percentage loss and see if it makes sense in relation to how old the car is. Expect roughly about 1% down per year. Other good things to do: Check the energy graph to see how it's performed lately and if there are any outliers that stand out. Drive it around and see how it fares. Take it to a Supercharger and make sure it charges at the right speed.

We followed your list today. Found battery damaged under the car. It was missing plastic cover and metal was exposed. There were big puncture holes and dents under the car between two wheels. We would not have checked under the car without your list. After showing them the damage and a quick inspection , they told us the car did not meet the standard of used certified car and did not sell us the car.

@DeVonMArtis NO. They just told us they would not sell us that car and we had to find another car ourselves. They refunded the total amount, including the non refundable $500 reservation fee. The original car was 3 month old used car with only 1k miles on it. They did not price match our replacement. The replacement was $2k more plus additional $1k for delivery. It was a 6 month old model with 3k miles on it. They offered no assistance in finding or purchasing the replacement. All said and done, we are glad we found the issue with the original one and did not take ownership of it. It would have been a nightmare dealing with Tesla for fixes.

@tesbros

Oof, that's tough without seeing them. Sounds like they'd both be decent choices though. The long range can really come in handy if you like to travel. I would double check to make sure those dents aren't affecting the glass in any way though. Have either ever been in wrecks? I try to stay clear of those. Do either of them have EAP or FSD by chance?

@@tesbros both have EAP. Neither have been in a wreck. I love the pick up on the 2018 but do I really need 1-2 seconds quicker 0-60 for most driving… prob not. 2018 is dual AWD which would come in handy in New England, but 2020 does come with 2 tire sets (one winter). Thanks for doing this. My 2020 M3 should hopefully be here next week. Do you do these checks at the service center? Would you try to get them to make repairs before signing for delivery or should you sign, take it home, do the checks and then contact the next day with the list of repairs to be scheduled? Curious as to the best way to have warranty work done? Thanks!
@tesbros
@tesbros 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I would do all the checks at the service center before signing, make the list there and if the issues are something you're okay with fixing, then sign off on delivery and have them schedule the appropriate appointments for you to come back. The reason being that it makes the process much easier, and you leave knowing you made a good buy. Plus, if it has to do with the battery punctured, charging not working, or something seriously wrong, then you need to know these things before driving off.

Great video! How do you know how much to deduct from the price they asking for flaws? Say you see some major scratches or if the tires are close to having to be replace. I am going at the end of the month to see this used Model 3 that I really want.. But I feel like I am going to run into some issues because the car is priced so cheaply.. its almost 42k miles and has Autopilot computer: Full self-driving computer with Autopilot: Included Package and Standard Connectivity Included. Does this mean that it has the AutoPilot Computer Included? Thanks if you get back to me!
@tesbros
@tesbros Жыл бұрын
All Teslas will have your basic autopilot. But when it comes to FSD, that's where it gets tricky to tell sometimes. You might see "Full Self Driving capability" or "Full self-driving computer" in your software settings, but this doesn't mean you have it. To tell if the car has full self-driving feature activated, ask them to take a photo of the "Software" tab and send to you. Underneath the VIN #, you need to see "Full Self Driving Capability" with "included package" written beneath it for the car to have the FSD package activated. As far as how much to deduct from flaws, I would write them all down and how much it would cost to fix each one. Then subtract from what they are asking for and see if you can negotiate a lower price based on that.

2019 long range M3 with 39k miles. Asking $39,995 and Carfax report is completely clean. Should I be worried about almost 40k miles on it?
@tesbros
@tesbros 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about 40k miles on it. That's pretty average for a nearly 4 yr old car. As long as the driver took good care of it and it's in good shape, I think that's a good deal. Especially because you can't order a M3 long range at the moment in US and Canada since the order backlog extends well into 2023. However, keep in mind the warranty expiring soon.

Thank you for the really helpful list for used Tesla buyer. 2 questions i hope you can shed more lights on. 1 how can I see all the feature / existing factory warranty included on the car since the Tesla appl only allow actual owner to view such details. The BMW dealer is clueless on this question? 2 how to bring up all white/black LCD screen to inspect for dead pixes/fading etc?
@tesbros
@tesbros 10 ай бұрын
Here’s how to check the screen! See warranty answer below.
@tesbros
@tesbros 10 ай бұрын
For features and specs, you can go to controls > software in the touchscreen. However, this won't show warranty details. If you don't have access to the app, the best way would be to calculate 4 years from the manufacture date. Open the driver door and look at the sticker on the door sill that shows where the tire pressure is. At the very top left corner, it should say GVWR with a date above it. For example 05/20. That's the month and year it was manufactured. So your basic vehicle warranty would expire 05/24. and your 8 year battery/drive train would expire 05/28. Hope this helps!

Have a question for all y’all out there. What am i looking at to get a charging outlet at home? Do i ask the seller to throw in the main charger thing ( have no idea what it’s called 😂) .. and i have to pay an electrician to run a line to my garage ? Or is that something i can’t ask the seller for and have to buy a new charging wall mount? Don’t really know what all those things are called. Any info please and thanks.
@tesbros
@tesbros Жыл бұрын
If you're buying from someone who doesn't need their wall connector anymore, then you can see if they will sell you it used. Otherwise, you'll buy one directly from Tesla (shop.tesla.com/product/wall-connector) and have an electrician install it. You can also see if the seller will give you the mobile connector or sell it to you discounted. This is handy just to keep in your car and have in case of emergencies or if you're traveling and need to plug up at the place you're visiting. It'll be slow, but it's better than nothing sometimes (shop.tesla.com/product/mobile-connector?sku=1763817-00-A). Here's our video on how to install the wall connector if you want more details on how this works - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJiQi6J7m5qVlbM&lc=UgyN4Ke7sueVaeOSHIl4AaABAg

Was hoping you were gonna explain more about red flags for battery degradation
@tesbros
@tesbros 11 ай бұрын
This is what I would do when it comes to that. See what the car has at 100% charge and what it was originally rated for. Do the math to figure out the percentage loss and see if it makes sense in relation to how old the car is. Expect roughly about 1% down per year. Check the energy graph to see how it's performed lately and if there are any outliers that stand out. Drive it around and see how it fares. Take it to a Supercharger and make sure it charges at the right speed. If it's a third party seller, my favorite question is to ask why they are selling as that will usually let you know how the car has been for them. Hope this helps!

What about the battery?
@tesbros
@tesbros 6 ай бұрын
Make sure when it's charged up all the way, you aren't losing more than 1-2% of range for every year of how old it is. So for example, if you have a 2018 model 3 LR, it's rated for 310 miles. If it's only showing 290 when fully charged, that's okay, because that's about a 6% decrease for a 6 year old car. If it's more than 3% for every year of its age, I would be concerned. Also, make sure to check underneath the car to make sure there aren't any punctures or dents in the battery pack. Drive it and make sure the range doesn't jump dramatically. Check the energy graph on the tesla touchscreen too for any anomalies.

To check your Tesla warranty, follow these steps: Via the Tesla App: 1. Open the Tesla app on your smartphone. 2. Tap on your vehicle. 3. Scroll to the bottom where it says "specs and warranty". Here, you can view details like coverage periods for different components. Tesla Account Online: 1. Log into your Tesla account on the official Tesla website. 2. Select your vehicle. 3. Go to the Details or Warranty section to see information on your vehicle's warranty coverage. Vehicle’s Touchscreen: You can check warranty information directly from the vehicle’s touchscreen by going to Controls > Service > Warranty. Tesla vehicles have two main warranties: - Basic Vehicle Warranty: Covers the car for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. - Battery and Drive Unit Warranty: Varies by model but typically lasts 8 years with a specific mileage limit (e.g., 150,000 miles for Model S and Model X). Thanks for information I have a 2021 tesla model 3 LR from used inventory delivery date in a few days. Don't mind some scratches and general wear and tear or some panel gaps but hopefully don't have too many issues. Scared of chips in glass. I also live over 100 miles from the delivery centre I'm driving to.. Will I be screwed if I don't find an issue until after 100 miles/72 hours?
@tesbros
@tesbros 4 ай бұрын
Congrats on your upcoming delivery! I can understand the concern, especially since you're a bit farther from the delivery center. Here's what you can do to cover yourself for that 72 hour/100 miles window: - Thorough Inspection at Delivery: When you pick up the car, take your time! If you're okay with minor scratches or panel gaps, focus on checking more significant things like glass, lights, and the interior electronics. You can also ask them to address any major concerns immediately at the center. - Document Any Issues: If you notice something after you leave, document it ASAP with photos and report it to Tesla within the 72-hour/100-mile window. - Tesla Service Flexibility: If you find an issue after 100 miles, you can still reach out to Tesla Service. You'll be within warranty which is great and they will help you out.

So does the warranty transfer if bought from a third-party?

Ordered a used Tesla. If I notice any of these issues when picking up the car, should I expect them to fix it for me before I take it off the lot?
@tesbros
@tesbros 10 ай бұрын
If you bought from Tesla, no, you'll schedule a service appointment with them before you leave though. However, if it's something they deem "within spec," they won't fix (or at least fix for free) and you can decide to decline the delivery or not

Hi, I'm picking up a used 2021 Model Y from Telsa this Saturday. Will it come with at least an 80% charge at delivery charge? Does Tesla typically replace tires at delivery if the vehicle is still under warranty?
@tesbros
@tesbros 7 ай бұрын
It should come with that charge, but I would reach out to them to make sure. Tires will come with 5/32" minimum tread remaining as outlined in this 'warranty and condition' section: www.tesla.com/support/ordering-used-tesla and remember that you will have an extra 1 year/10k mile Used Vehicle Limited Warranty if any other problems arise: www.tesla.com/support/vehicle-warranty#used-limited-warranty

Question, I have heard that Tesla is known for banning modified cars. How can we be certain that the used car isn’t on some banned list where they won’t allow updates or super charging or something like that?
@tesbros
@tesbros Жыл бұрын
Tesla has banned all salvage/branded titled Teslas from using superchargers. When you look up the VIN number via car fax, you'll be able to see it's entire history.

Oof, that's a tough one. I wouldn't buy it personally unless I knew the person selling and can tell me exactly what happened. But if it's a dealer and they have no info, that's risking 27k.
