Every one of those tunings sounded perfect, I can’t believe how good that shallow depth sounds..
@DanMarcelino
@DanMarcelino 4 жыл бұрын
Christian Baumgartner totally. Most common misconception about snares.. especially in tracking.. shallow drums get hugeee sounds, no need for a 6.5” or 8” deep snare for that big sound. I have a ton of snares and my favs and most recorded snares are the brass, steel and edge drums and they’re all shallower compared to the other snares

It's incredible how much range that piccolo snare has. At low, it nearly had the depth of a 6.5"X14". I see now why so many drummers have had a piccolo as their go-to drum.

Still have one of these. One of the all time best sounding piccolo snares. This the one that Dave Weckl used on his old drum instructional videos. So good. The clear coat on mine is a bit ratty.

This sounds exactly like the snare Vinnie used at the Buddy Rich memorial with Dave Weckl and Steve Gadd. Amazing
@johndiraimo1444
@johndiraimo1444 3 жыл бұрын
It is the exact same snare that Vinnie used. I still have mine, it's awesome and I would never part way with it. It has it's own sound very different than other snares. You can tighten and dial in the snare wires from both sides of the strainer. The snare wires are longer than the 14 inch diameter of the shell. The strainer mechanism stretches the wires across the whole surface of the head beyond each bearing edge and results in a sensitivity out of this world.

This is a Great Picolo Snare Drum. I used it for Years! Same Model Number. Same Brass. Im just reminescing on my Glory days. I won many awards with this Snare. Hard to find. Wish I could get the original back from school. But that was ages ago! And I mean, ages ago. Ha. But anywho, this snare is well worth it. If someone hasnt already bought it. : (

Bought this Yamaha piccolo snare model sd493 just bcoz of Dave Weckl's instructional video back in 1996.....heavy as hell and i couldn't even play it live at certain venues cause the sound tech guys would say that it was bit too loud for it's size......great sound that snare produced....those were the good old days when me was still young.....😁😁😁

I had one of these - why I sold it, I'll never know. IMO one of the best brass snare drums ever made. When mic'd up it could take the top of your head off. It cut through at any volume.

1. The snare sounds incredible 2. Its all in the head configurations and tuning 3. It doesn’t sound like a can it sounds tight and like everything else in life it has a place and a time for it. Meaning its not a jazz ensemble snare but it would be great for church, gospel, funk- you get the picture... Great job with the video! Keep them coming! Memphis drum shop is of the chain!!
