I follow both of you and this was so fun. Like a tea party with women I would want to take advice from. I always bought tee shirts because they were cheap, I was home with little boys, we spent time outdoors, all those kinds of thoughts. Since the kids are grown I felt obligated to start with “real” shirts that are in all the capsules. It turns out that I just love long sleeve tees. They are soft, cozy, don’t rub the back of my neck in an irritating way. Buying higher quality fit and fabric with more drape because I’m only 5’2” and getting V neck made all the difference. If I get oversized it’s with intention. Thank you both for helping me develop alternate thought behaviors to counter cultural expectations that I didn’t even know I had adopted. You two are such a gift of authenticity and love. Thank you so, so much💚

Style and fashion aren’t superficial at all, they’re important for self-respect. Plus, they’re such fun aspects of being female. Men don’t feel guilty about their expensive sports, tech toys and hobbies, which seem much more trivial to me.

I lost 7 kg this year so I have had to replace a lot of clothes sticking to classic pieces. At first I felt guilty because I was doing a no buy but now I don't. I'm glad you guys made this video together! It made me feel less alone.

With all that’s going on in the world from inflation to significant credit card debt to cost of everything going up, your discussion is key for people who spend mindlessly and for those who don’t track where their money is going. I hope for those who are experiencing that kind of financial pressure that they are listening to your advice and strategies about low buy and no buy options. Thank you for doing this!!

Loved this collaboration 😊. You two are so candid and speak so much sense about how we view out wardrobes. Christina is so brave to be so open about her previous spending habits and having had debts myself in the past, I know how she feels. I too found no buy too restrictive, especially as my lifestyle has changed and that impacted on my clothing needs. I could see gaps in my wardrobe and by creating a wish list, I have added pieces that work with what I already have and given me new styling options. I look for second hand first, wait for discount codes or sales from my favourite brands and research more sustainable brands - now that I am no longer working, I have the time to do this! Thank you both, and I hope that you will do this again soon 😊

A word from me: Thank You for this No buy challenge, Signe. Although I’ve bought some things this year I definitely change my attitude for shopping and I buy way way less.

Styles and silhouettes also change, we need to allow some room for that or our wardrobes get outdated. Skinny jeans/trousers have been replaced with roomier styles and midis mostly replaced with maxis. This is difficult for me as an older woman, 62, I want to wear pleated midis forever. I will keep some, but add in some newer styles gradually, too. I know many women my age who still only want to wear skinnies and long tops, the style of 20 years ago, but at our age, keeping current is even more important.
@mckenzielangendorf14372 жыл бұрын
Take it from a 21 year old w all the baggy jeans in the world, you def do not need to be “current” :) don’t get rid of ur pleated midis if that’s what u love! Chances r that’s a rly iconic piece for u, people might identify u by ur midi skirts. I have so much more admiration for personal style-ESPECIALLY w older ladies who look sooo chic bc they just know what they like-than being able to keep up with trends

Love both of you and your style! I have been buying intentionally for about 3 years now and have saved so much money. I used to buy any clothing I liked without any thought whatsoever as to what it will go with in my wardrobe or if I even needed the item. I am basically a jeans and T shirt girl with a blazer thrown in. Great video!

This is really helpful. I started a no buy in August primarily for financial reasons and it has been going well. But maybe you would classify it as a low buy instead because when I started I typed up specific exceptions. For example, I swim a lot and generally wear out at least one bathing suit a year. So I wrote down at the beginning that I would buy a replacement suit in late August when they are on sale, so I wouldnt have to pay full price later. I had several exceptions like that and if something reasonable and unexpected comes up later, Im going to add an exception for that without beating myself up. That's why hard core minimalist channels have not been helpful to me at all - they seem like cultists. Same with getting rid of things you havent worn for X years; I just pulled 2 classic leather blazers out of a box where I carefully packed them 10 years ago - they felt too formal for a while, but now are on trend again. I wouldnt have had those pieces stored if I had stripped down to some limited capsule. I guess I'm just trying to say that your more balanced approach is so much more helpful.

Love seeing two favourits at the same time! have done a no buy year to save money to visit my brother many years ago. I regretted it for several years after as I had to buy double the amount the year after and I coudn’t afford that, which meant replacements had to wait and I suffered! Especially with underwear & shoes. So low buy, only replacements is the best I think. I have done only replacements for over 30 years so the amount of cloths stay the same but not style etc. ❤

Follow and appreciate both of your channels so love when you do collaborations. On the messy house thing - I have people ask me that all the time and I don’t have a YT channel. It is them coming to my house and seeing things IRL. It’s because we have less stuff than the average person. Their messy isn’t really the same as our messy. The time it takes to put things back in order is far less because of the lack of stuff.

I have a monthly budget for all discretionary spending: clothes, accessories, makeup, beauty services, travel, dining out and entertainment. I still routinely use it for mostly clothes and accessories, so I’m trying to leave more for the other things, but it’s hard, I just love wardrobe items so much. Also, during the pandemic, I got accustomed to spending more on them also because activities were so limited. The best change I’ve made is to stop browsing fast-fashion brands for cheap, trendy newbies and focus on the better-quality, more timeless brands that I love.

The thing is I found somewhere in Toronto that's cheaper than the thrift store. I can find premium quality for $10, winter jackets for $20 or tank tops for $2. I'll say I'm not going there but I find myself there 2 to 4 times a week, I'll go for a walk and find myself there. I'm conscious of what I do now so I'll buy 1 cashmere sweater for $10 instead of 5 things for $2. I started writing it down and putting the same amount I spent into savings.

Great to see you both in a video again! I guess, my main problem is that living in Scotland, l have to wear most of my wardrobe all year round. One needs jumpers and cardigans in the summer, vests and t-shirts in the winter for layering. Very few items are only getting used in a specific season. This means it's easy to get bored. Still, l shop mindfully, find gaps in my wardrobe and put these things on a wishlist. Recently l downloaded Open Wardrobe hoping it would help me to create new combinations. However, l can't see an option of the app creating outfits for me. Can you help?
@UseLess_dk2 жыл бұрын
Re: the auto outfits in Open Wardrobe you need to build a capsule that has at least 30 items 😊 The 30 items should belong to categories that will produce full outfits. For example, if someone has 50 tops and bottoms but no shoes, outfits will not be auto- generated. I hope this makes sense. You can find the outfits under “suggested” in the outfits tap 🥰

I have seen the colour consulting video you made with Christina (very informative!). I also had a colour consultance and I resulted to be a summer type. I got the colour palet (specially cool colours) for this type without any information regarding deepness or clearity. For me it's so hard to understand which colours fit me because - as you said - there are so many shades and nuances of colours, so I never know which might be the right one for me. I find it very hard to distinguish between cold and warm colours . So at the end after the consultation I was more confused than before and I continue to relay on my own intentions and my own feeling... Have you any advise how to go on better with my colour palet?
@UseLess_dk2 жыл бұрын
I’d love to go through a virtual consultation with you if you’re interested! You can book via the link under the video - I find that to tonal system we use at CMB doesn’t leave you as confused as some of the other systems out there. That’s not to say they don’t work as well, but the terminology is often easier for our clients to understand! Just a thought 🙏🏻❤️ xx

I accidentally went down two sizes from exercising although that was not a goal and I liked my size before too. I had a great wardrobe. But now all my bottoms and dresses which I loved are too large. I have found fabulous replacements second hand though. I am afraid to have my clothes altered because they were expensive, what if the result is not good, and what if I will gain weight in the future. But what if I will remain this size. It is a true dilemma.
