I just returned to Sweden from a cozy weekend in Hornbaek and Gilleleje in Denmark and I couldn’t agree more with you Signe. I did some people watching and can only say that Danish people are so stylish, even when it’s cold and rainy. They look very put together, while being very comfortable. Long puffy coats, colorful scarves and gloves, either hiking shoes or Ilse Jacobsen rubber boots 😍 always some minimal makeup and clean hair. Very elegant. Also, more colors than I expected. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it 😊

What coat is it? I know a trick for dresses and thin coats (like rainwear for example): close your coat and take a big button or even a 5 kroner coin and hold it BEHIND your legs in the middle at the hight of your knees (stand with a bit "opened" legs). Push it a bit forward between your knees. Then grab the button with both the back and front cloth with the other hand and hold it all together. Then - tadaa! - take a rubber band (best a bit thicker one) or a rubber band for hair (don't know, how it's called in English) out of your pocket and wrap it around the covered button or coin as long as it holds tight all together. Mostly you have enough place for moving, so you can ride your bike without any problems (except a men's bike I guess). Try it, it helped me in several situations. But be aware, that it can leave some "crash effect" depending on the material of your clothes 😉

No idea why YT recommended this video for me considering I live in Finland and basically we Nordic people share the same minimal esthetics. But that said it seems people are enjoining this video a lot and it's great to have these sort of videos alongside the Parisian ones which seems to dominate the guides ;p

We were in Copenhagen about 12 years ago in July for 10 days. My husband was attending a pork convention for four of those days, so I was able to do some tours of castles, etc. It was very unseasonable hot!! Luckily our hotel had air conditioning. The last night of the convention there was a lovely dinner, ballet and dance at the the beautiful Opera House. We loved Copenhagen!! The people were so nice and friendly and we loved all the outside cafes!!

Sort of. I’m Canadian and have been living in DK for over a decade. Danish dressing doesn’t always have the practicality of Canadian fashion. For example, in winter you rarely see a Dane with a hat/toque even carried with them. In most of Canada if it isn’t necessary you at least have one tucked on you somewhere. They (Danes) instead wear enormous bulky scarves wrapped up to their ears. They also love bling more than Canadians - worn for any occasion. Canadians are generally more subdued. Danes are casually neat. Their blundstones look new and they are quite often neat… no shirttails untucked or baggy loose t-shirts. Their love of black can just be depressing.

Great video, thank you for posting this. I live in Interior Alaska and this is a style we practice also. There is a real style up here called "Alaska formal" which would include standard formal attire all the way down to overalls with bunny boots. Anything goes up here at formal functions (well most formal functions). This video has given me some wonderful ideas on how to style my sequin skirt for everyday wear in November and December working at the Antique shop.

Canadian here. Used to live in a climate more like Denmark but now fully in the mountains. Your video a few years back about how to layer and still wear a nice coat (that's how I remember it anyhow) was a revelation. wearing a liner layer + big scarf + fun hat to give a 'colder' temperature range to my wool coats lets the coats be a beautiful part of the outfit. To put it more precisely: other than for certain extreme outdoor activities I HATE wearing puffer coats that tend to ruin the look of the outfit underneath. So the idea that the necessary weather items should also be well-chosen to fit your personal style is liberating.

I wear my wavy hair natural, without styling it, and just sunscreen and lip balm on the vast majority of days. If wearing a dark color, or for dressing up more, I’ll wear some blush and lipstick. My eyes have become so sensitive over the years that I just can’t tolerate eye makeup anymore. During my career, although I always tried for a natural-looking makeup look, I really needed a polished, more-makeup look for my corporate office, with foundation, concealer, eye makeup, etc. I enjoy not having to do all that every morning now that I’m retired.

Maybe you can give me some advice. I prefer A-line dresses and skirts to trousers and jeans because they are more flattering to my figure. What is a good way to "Danish them up?" The only thing that comes to my mind is flats and a blazer. As for "the wrong shoe" I've got that nailed as I wear Vibram Five Fingers exclusively.

Hi Signe, this was really interesting and confirmed what I observed when I was traveling in Denmark last month. The esthetic isn't my particular cup of tea, for me personally it's a little too desaturated and minimal. I get bored when there is so little colour, I'm more on the side of dopamine dressing 😉. I know you added colourful options but, at least from my observations, wearing bolder colours seemed to be more the exeption? However, I do get behind the laid-back feeling and keeping things practical (well, I'm german...). Would you say Danes are usually more stylish than Germans? I don't mean in Berlin & Kobenhavn, but in the smaller and mid-sized cities & towns. Cheers, Sophie

I wouldn’t say Danes are more stylish than Germans or anyone for that matter, I do however personally appreciate that the dress code is generally so laid back here - but then again, I’m biased as I was born and raised here haha! Thanks for watching! ❤️🙏🏻

There's definitely more variety in the bigger cities, compared to more provincial towns. When I first moved to Denmark, it was one of the things I noticed - I live on the West Coast, and the style is definitely minimal and neutral, but go to Aarhus or Copenhagen and a little more colour sneaks in, and the silhouettes vary much more. Its the same around the world - bigger cities are just more varied. Me, I love the minimal silhouettes, but I often add pops of my beloved reds and blues.

I wouldn’t fit in there, I have wear skirts and dresses. I would love to wear jeans, but in 50 years I’ve never found even one pair with a reasonable fit, my body shape just doesn’t work in jeans. I don’t fit in much in my native US, either, or anywhere else for that matter, in my skirts and dresses, everyone else only wears gym wear, which I hate. I finally, at age 63, found some (no fly) trousers that fit pretty well and have been buying them in my neutral and basic colors: Franne Gold and Crazy Larry brands. I simply have no waist, hip or thigh curves at all, I’m straight as a yard-stick, except for a strangely, naturally large bust. All women’s, and most men’s trousers/jeans just fall right down off my skinny hips, no matter how tight I get them. The best-fitting jeans I’ve found are men’s 501s. I wouldn’t say they fit well at all, the thighs are enormous, but at least they don’t make people laugh until they cry when they see them on me, like women’s jeans. I got a peculiar mix of genes, I suppose, like Mother Nature couldn’t quite make up her mind, or just threw in whatever was left over.
