Something you said in this video finally sunk in for me--that its a good to store away clothes that you need to take a break from. I think I have been de-cluttering clothes that I simply needed a break from because I end up re-buying them. This was a super hard lesson for me to learn so thank you for continuing to reiterate this point. Its much more sustainable for me to hold onto something I'm tired of and store it away before just decluttering. This will prevent over consumption as I think I've become too good at decluttering. Thank you for this wisdom!

Same. I feel so good when I get rid of stuff, but I think putting things away and shopping my own wardrobe makes way more sense.

I totally agree - I got rid of a few perfectly good pieces which really suited me because I was bored of them. I have subsequently re-bought them back second hand and now know when I bored of other pieces just pop them away for a bit 👍🏻

I feel like the world needs more healthy people sharing minimalism and sustainability. 💕 Less hustle, less fast fashion, and more honesty. If we all were more honest with life, I think others would feel less of a need to constantly be more than what they are. THANK YOU for sharing! 💕🙏

I decluttered 80 % of my wardrobe about 4 years ago and then went shopping because i thought i deserved it. 2 years later i decluttered again and, fun fact, got rid of all my new purchases (they were thrifted, so not a big financial loss). Then i went back thrifting and only got pieces that were absolutely perfect for me. At the moment i am extremely happy with what i have in my closet

I’m so glad that you encourage people to store things, not just get rid of things. I don’t need slouchy boots for this year’s trend, for example, I have great leather ones from last time around. Now, they’re saying gladiator sandals are out, fine, I’ll keep mine, they were expensive and are in perfect condition. Plus, I’ll wear an older item happily if the rest of the outfit is reasonably current. Buying simple classics, not extreme trends, is one key to wardrobe longevity, as is high quality.

I would love to see a video about how you apply minimalist principles in raising your baby. What items have you found useful, which are unnecessary? How much clothing is enough for your baby? That type of thing.

Loved this video. I have been reading up a lot on the studies behind style and wellness and I find it so interesting. Having more in your wardrobe is certainly not going to make you happy especially if none of it goes together! It only adds to the frustration of the daily task of getting dressed. I'm not quite at a capsule wardrobe yet however my shopping habits have changed dramatically over the last 3-4 years and I am finding it much more enjoyable!

I have been following you since 2016 and you taught me a great deal about finding my style. I must admit that I rarely have the "I have nothing to wear" moment standing in front of my wardrobe. So thank you for teaching me how to appreciate and love everything I already own ❤️

When I was living in Denmark & my otherwise simple house had a Scandi style slide-drobe thing, my clothes were always in a mess, I bought things to fill it. Now I’m back at my parents in Ireland while the pandemic is on, with only a simple standalone wardrobe, it forced me to tidy it and also get rid of the things I never will use. So if you’re lucky enough to have a really nice large wardrobe, maybe try and force your self using a small one for a few days and imagine if that was your only space, how would you cope? It might be a good exercise to assess what you really want and don’t want or what can be capsuled.

Yes I love to have a minimal wardrobe because it give me lots of contentment with my closet. And I also love to make seasonal capsule wardrobes because it really helps me to stop shopping and just sit and be content with what I have for a season. 😀😀

For years I've struggled with clothes. From never being allowed new things, to purchasing to fill loses or cheer myself up.. then wondering why I never had anything to wear despite having a closet full. maybe I needed more of the right things.. whatever they were(!).. added with growing older and style changes.. I've decluttered a few times, but it's probably not been enough. I got a lot out today and it did feel disgusting tbh. Why so much! I started with the "does this spark joy" but if I answered that honestly I'd be left with about 4 things! Plus, then I realized, I don't even know my style. I'm trying to find the positives. I guess it's that Ive tried different styles and know what I'm comfortable in at least.. Ive grown out of tight clothing, i know not to try new trends (buy timeless things instead), and stop dressing for other ppl, I just want comfort, smart but casual.. things that all work together. I need to be more ruthless, but I'm struggling! I put things on and I like them, but. I'm not good at putting it together. Plus I still feel I own way too much. I probably need to spend some time trying things on, seeing what works together, This process has crept into day 3 now.. I feel like I'm doing it all wrong or something. Hoping to get some tips from your videos! X

Nic, I don't think you are doing anything wrong, rather, you are diving very deeply into who you are and how you want to present yourself to others while feeling good about yourself. This deep introspection does take a lot of time, is inconvenient, and sometimes feels shameful or even wasteful as you eliminate past purchases. To fine tune your wardrobe, attention must be paid to body shape, skin tone, eye color, hair color, lifestyle, tastes etc. Find your colors! Discover your shape and examine your practical needs. You will be well on your way to feeling confident and appropriately dresses for all occasions. I applaud you for your efforts, and know you will be successful. It is worth it!

You have hit on something. Decluttering takes a lot of time. In September I spent no less than 40 hours decluttering and reorganizing. Creating those decision piles required that I to try on almost every piece, create outfits and write sticky notes to remember what looked good together. Be patient. Maybe look at the Kettlewell online catalog. They have a quick color quiz, then curate selections for your coloring. Do you have a curvy body (no tunics for you) or an athletic build? Have you seen the video fitting a bra while exhaling to-get your band size and bending over from the waist to get your cup size? GAME CHANGER.

I keep everything on hangers, except knits, even in storage, so that I don’t have to re-iron them. I’m lucky to have some extra closet space, but it is spread out over three stories, so seasonal changeovers take some work-outs. Wash or dry clean everything before storing!

One of the biggest things I can recommend for hanging clothing is getting the proper SIZED hangers. Standard hangers are about 17 inches wide and are better suited for an adult male's clothes than for a petite woman for example. That's the biggest reason people get spikes in their clothes. The hanger is just too wide. But hangers actually come in different sizes. I only buy "junior" sized hangers which are more like 14" wide. As a small-ish woman, they are perfect for the shoulder width of my clothes. If you are going to invest in hangers, don't just think about the material, also consider the size.

Im struggling a bit with how much/many clothes i should have. Im the type of person who standard wears a lot of the same clothes for a long time. Im conflicted in what is normal? Should i seperate "home clothes" and "work/school clothes" how many sets of clothes schould i have? Im also very selcontious so even when i buy something "nicer" i wonder if it fits me and how other people see me ect.

for the home clothes and work/school clothes question: what I personally do is I have some "work sets only" and "home sets only" (these 2 are about 70% of my wardrobe). My 30% of the wardrobe can be worn for both at work at home. These pieces are the "basic clothes with some twist, extra details" and pieces that are casual but can easily dressed up if you want to (for example, henleys, turtlenecks, polos, depends on what you like). I think it is very useful to have this kind of pieces because personally I like it that I don't always "have to" wear only the most basic clothes at home and don't have to wear only dressy clothes to work.
@amarillajuhasz9363 жыл бұрын
@@tamara5082 for the seasonal question: i think layering pieces are key, for example, I can wear most of my clothes in summer/fall/spring OR fall/winter/spring. I have few pieces which are 'summer only' or 'winter only'. It depends on the weather and where you live but I don't think it's practical to buy TOO MANY of summer only and winter only pieces.

It’s funny, but people just love rules and guidelines for things. They want to know: how many tops, how many jeans, do I have to wear skirts or dresses, etc. But these are such personal things, zero to one pairs of jeans is perfect for me, for example.

My biggest issue with capsule wardrobe and minimalism is that I'm plus sized. If I want a well fitting tee or button down shirt it can take years to find. Literally. And 90% of clothing is online only. The brands that exist offer very little interesting shapes and sell out quickly. There seems to be an assumption we look like refrigerators going to the same polyester disco that my mother did. Yet half the population is size 16 and up. It's crazy this still exists.
@kimberlyperrotis89623 жыл бұрын
That’s why I walked off my extra weight. When I was borderline plus-size all I could ever find was black polyester pants. Now that I’m back in regular sizes, I can wear most brands. I highly recommend gradually working up to a 90 minute walk per day and eliminating all sugar and alcohol, the pounds fall off so fast you won’t believe it.

@@kimberlyperrotis8962 I'd have eliminate medications too. I hope you realize how dehumanizing that is to make half the adult female population personally responsible for an industry's failing to properly address their customer's needs.
