Chaplin had no musical education, but something was "inherited" from his father, who performed in music halls: an innate ear, an amazing sense of rhythm, a craving for art, early exposure to the theatrical world, and a love of the profession. According to the biography of Fred Karno, the young Chaplin, in between performances at the theater, often picked up melodies on an old cello.
