Thank you for this video. It was extremely helpful in being able to try this out with some data that I have. I have a few questions such as: (1) the video mentions an update to categories, how can I get the most recent update to the software; (2) The voting seems to allowing only 5 selections to be made, where you have several categories to the data how can we achieve more depth in the diagraph.

Thanks for your comment! I'm afraid the software was a university project and is offered only as-is, so there are no updates. I will pass your comment to the authors and see whether they have any guidance. - Dan Warfield, trustee.

Dear Ady, Good to hear from you and thank you for your message on LinkedIn also, and for the follow-up via email! 🙂. I thought it might be useful to post my LinkedIn reply here also. In summary, we have found it more practical to do the categorisation work in the larger room space (building upon the Nominal Group Technique phase of work) rather than on screen in the software, and thus we didn't continue with coding work focused on categorisation. We also often do the voting 'on the wall' in the room (i.e., directly on a wall display of the categorised idea set) and in this situation people can select (i.e., vote for) more than 5 ideas/elements, which are then taken into structuring work (i.e., using the matrix structuring, ISM tool). I do appreciate what you're saying about the software limiting to five votes there, but again, if you would like to offer participants the opportunity to select (vote for) more than 5 ideas/elements, this can be done live in the room on the wall. You then count and review votes on the wall and move selected ideas over for structuring work. I hope this helps :-) Kindest regards, Mike P.S. Thank you for your email also, and I hope you found the workshop training notes useful. If anyone else reading this would like to receive a copy of our workshop training notes (which were developed for an EU project -- a 2-day workshop structure, part of which involves ISM), I'd be happy to share. Please email michael.hogan@universityofgalway.ie

is it possible to use the ISM software to choose latent factors in developing questionnaire in new context from previous researches?

Good to hear from you, and sorry I'm so slow responding. When you apply to broader Interactive Management (IM) approach, which includes NGT (for idea generation and selection), Field Representations (to generate categorised idea field), and ISM (to generate structural models), yes, it is possible to use this whole approach as a basis for scale development work (i.e., to identify possible constructs derived from reflection on categorised field representations; and also possible fundamental driver constructs/categories derived from reflection on single or multiple (i.e., meta-analysed) ISM structures. But you do need to follow the IM steps with application of good scale development methods and practices (i.e., item pool generation, expert evaluation of items, item refinement, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and construct validation testing). A good example of how we have done this in previous work can be seen here, if you read these two papers in sequence - the first one illustrates the IM work, and the second one illustrates the scale development work. 1) journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0305735615591844 2) www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2018.00516/full Kind regards and all best wishes, Mike
