It’s really not that embarrassing though. as someone who has a sewing kit whenever I go somewhere important (had an accident once and decided I should have a needle with me all the time).... it really is impossible. even if you are extremely skilled you need either a sewing machine or a lot of time to get the final part of the dress right. If you just rip it off like she did it will have threads everywhere and start to get undone at some point, no matter how good the cloth is.

I get it not being a big deal to wear the same outfit as someone like a classmate or a friend or a stranger even but it's a whole different scenario when it's at a high class event. That IS embarrassing. People at those kinds of events and parties are super judgmental and your reputation at one of those would suffer if you were caught wearing the same exact dress as someone else. That's just how it is. A party like that involving the business world I would assume from their dialogue is somewhere your reputation and your impression on others would be important. It's entirely different from passing someone in public with the same dress. Usually, it wouldn't matter but if this were a real case it definitely would.

However, when it comes to large, rich-people social events (according to observations of dramas and personal observations as someone who is on the priveleged side of middle-class), you want to be able to stand out from the other people around you. Unfortunately, men don't really have the ability to do this outside of wearing different ties, but women have the largest variety in outfits, making them the ones who need to stand out the most. Let's say, it's like you're trying to be a rose in a field of daisies? You may not be the only beautiful one there, but you want to stand out from the others. By having the same dress as another woman, it's essentially making yourself look like you're either copying another person's style to try "improving" it with your personal style (which can be seen as an insult to the other person, like they're saying "I can wear it better than you can") or it makes you no longer stand out as much because it looks like copying, which is not what you want to do in these sorts of events. By association of outfit, you want to separate yourself from other women so that way you can be remembered better. It's mostly for social connections, so that the others remember you better and associate you as an individual without comparing you to someone else. Like in the drama, near the beginning of this clip where the men were comparing the two women against each other for having the same dress, it may seem like the appropriate response to such a situation, but in reality it just shows you will be compared to this other woman in outfit association in the memories of the other guests attending the event. You will forever be remembered as "that woman with the same dress, but was the more youthful of the two". You don't want them associating you with this other woman because then that other woman is inherently remembered whenever you are remembered. This is why having the same dress is bad. You just want to stand out and be remembered without inherently being remembered alongside another person. Sorry if this was long, I hope it made sense ^^'
