That bike is good news... Traditional Honda refinement at reasonable prices should put more people within reach of a good two-wheeler.. Now if insurance will tolerate 'sport bike fairings' I might want one.

I am wondering if they are going to or maybe they already came out with a nice 4cyl bike with a more upright riding position and a fairing for some wind protection.. that 750 that Honda has already with the dct does nothing for me . Oh , and for all the people that are hating on this with the e clutch , some people have issues with their hands , wrists etc. this could keep some of us riding . Just keep an open mind , and yeah I was lucky enough to pick up a 1993 CBR RR last week with 8,500 miles , black red, silver ..stirs the soul , it’s the bike that you seem to give that look back before you walk away ..but tough riding position and just to much fun to get on it , it goes for an old bike ! I think I would need to get a 2nd life insurance policy if I ride this thing every day. But we all can still appreciate new ideas and tech sometimes, right ? Stay safe everyone!

That engine sounds creamy smooth. Wonder if Honda are keeping 1 eye on the eloping Chinese bikes that are rapidly getting closer to Japanese build quality. I’d like one of these e-clutches in the future though. Half my riding seems to be charity rides at about 3 mph these days and not having agony in my left hand or constantly finding neutral and 1st for 5 seconds each would be bliss. What comments do you get from stubborn bikers that don’t accept change?
@UsernameKate2 ай бұрын
I'm sure you will see a few on this video haha
@diegorob932 ай бұрын
Most of the stubborn bikers I know are the type who spend their money on a quickshifter/blipper and then spend their time drumming on their tank at traffic lights. And that's exactly what an e-clutch lets you do...only better 🤣 I think most of the complaints come from a lack of understanding. The e-clutch doesn’t shift gears automatically, nor does it force you to use it if you don’t want to. It’s a great addition to any type of bike, and I’m sure we’ll see it expand to other Honda models. It’s a technology that’s here to stay.

17:46 Cruise control really would have been nice, probably the only thing I can foresee missing if I get the CB650R. Especially compared to the new 2025 Yamaha MT-07 Y-AMT which will have cruise control its absence here is more pronounced. 6:23 I need to do some research about these 'cruise control adapters', I guess they just hold the throttle so you need to find the right level for a stable speed, then watch out out for incline/downhill, but nice to hear it sounds like you're a big fan nonetheless - even of a very cheap one!

I owned and loved the 2022 Honda CBR650R until i got hit by a car (i was injury free, the bike totaled). Used it for commuting, weekend riding trips (poor luggage cap), full on spirited riding in the twisties and track riding. On the street, not even the S1000RR could keep up with me in the twisties. It was perfectly fine for beginner/early intermediate track riding , but a bit down on power for track riding in general. I would have gotten a new one in a heartbeat if i didn't get a Sick deal on my brand new Street Triple 765 RS. However, I just didn't like the new E-clutch pricing, and there isn't a none E-clutch available here. In our currency it went from 129,000 to 159,000 (for a comparison, my Street Triple 765 RS cost 141,000 after registration and everything). That's a massive price increase for an unnecessary extra part. And it's just another thing that can go wrong down the road...

I did a test drive with a 35kW 650R, without the e-clutch. I found it a bit odd with a bike that has a rev range that I can only use legally in the first gear... and the torque in the "legal" rev range isn't that impressive. I also took a test ride on a cbr 500r for comparison, and found it juicier up to 8000rpm. I hope the 650 is better in the non-restricted version!
@UsernameKate2 ай бұрын
Much different. I've ridden the restricted one before and this one full power, they're world's apart 😊
@diegorob932 ай бұрын
There's a huge difference. On the restricted version, once you go past 9000 RPM, you can feel it plateau in speed. That's exactly where the inline 4 delivers the most torque, and that's when the restriction becomes most noticeable. On the unrestricted version, you never feel it plateau until you hit the redline. It just keeps asking for more and more! It's one of the best feelings ever 😄 As for the CBR500R, it’s a twin-cylinder bike, so it delivers more torque at lower RPMs. Keep in mind that when it hits the redline (9000 RPM), the 650R is just starting to take off. At that point, it really comes down to personal preference, your riding style, and how you plan to use the bike.

Normally I would be scolding it for the geriatric e-clutch but since I bought a second hand Energica Esseesse9 a week ago I can no longer complain about overly gadgety and heavy bikes while keeping on a straight face. That darn Energica doesn’t even have a gearbox! Which I actually miss a lot. So I still don’t get the reasoning behind putting such a contraption on an ICE bike! Except the geriatric bit, that is. Oops. There I go again! Old habits die hard. 😁
@diegorob932 ай бұрын
Honestly, I shared your opinion until I bought it 🤣 The dealership in my area only stocked the e-clutch models, and my plan was to buy the standard version, but it wasn’t possible. Since it could be deactivated and used manually, I didn’t give it much importance. After trying it, I can say the e-clutch isn’t just convenient, it’s super fun. When you test it on twisty roads, that’s when you really notice its potential. It’s so smooth that it doesn’t even flinch if you shift gears mid-corner. In fact, it’s in city traffic and jams where it performs the worst, as you can feel it either going too fast or constantly engaging the clutch. That’s when I usually switch to manual mode. It’s a great addition to a sporty bike, it’s like a souped-up quickshifter. And surely, on a CBR600RR with electronic throttle, we’d notice the downshifts even more, working like a blipper.
@marcbrasse7472 ай бұрын
@@diegorob93 In a slightly later comment I was a bit milder. I gues it's more a matter of me being an old purist. I actually love the interaction between gearbox and clutch because it gives a feeling of achievement and honing ones skills. That's also why I normally like lighter bikes. You got to work them a bit to get where you are going while still staying at mor eor less road legal speeds. If one however constantly rides in an urban environment such tools are probably nice. But then again: One does not buy a sportsbike to do the milkround, does one? But to get out of the asfalt jungle and as long as it doesn't weigh too much or break down: Well alright then. Still missing the gearbox on the Energica though.🙂
@diegorob932 ай бұрын
@@marcbrasse747 Of course, I wasn’t trying to criticize. Every opinion is valid and respectable. I just wanted to share my experience because Honda marketed it as a convenient technology, but perhaps the best part is in its performance. That’s where it really surprised me the most. In the end, the feeling you get is what matters most, and this adds something new without having to give up the classic way 😉
