1:13 Sunscreen Safety
Transcript:
Let’s talk raw milk. Raw milk is milk from cows, sheep, or goats that has not been pasteurized to kill harmful pathogens. Raw, unpasteurized milk can carry dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria, which are responsible for causing numerous foodborne illnesses.
Decades ago, pasteurization of milk was adopted as a basic public health measure in the U.S. to kill these dangerous bacteria, largely eliminating the risk of getting sick from this staple of the American diet. Please check out our webpage for more information on the historic 100-year anniversary of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, which ultimately helped to ensure the safety of milk available throughout the US.
Do you have a hearing aid, glucose monitor, insulin pump or other medical device that requires charging? The FDA is offering tips to help you charge them safely, reducing the risks of the medical device overheating which can result in fires, minor injuries, or serious burns.
For example, only charge them with the charging accessories provided by the manufacturer. Also, charge your device during the day when you are awake and unplug the charger when your device is fully charged.
Before you go, here’s a quick FYI on sunscreen safety. Despite what’s been circulating on some social media platforms, it’s important to know that broad spectrum sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher help reduce your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging from the sun, when used as directed and with other sun protection measures.
For your best protection, make sure to wear protective clothing and use broad spectrum sunscreen of an SPF 15 or higher on exposed skin. Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours, and more often if you’re sweating or swimming.
