Makes sense… some days I can’t miss other days I can’t make a 4 footer… this tip is why… when I’m on I don’t think about straight back and thru. Jim Powell speaking. I do what you are teaching. However, I add one thing. When I set my putter I bring the inside of my elbows in so they just lightly touch my sides. That really helps me to be consistent with my stroke.

HI Todd, I had the worst putting of my life two days ago (10 3-putt greens), came home and checked out putting videos on KZbin. I'm a fan of yours (I bought your book) and saw the video where you talked about Cory Pavin and the tip he gave you about turning your left hand under the grip. I also have a balance issue (82 y/o) and tend to drift forward while putting and had been using a straight back and through stroke. I practiced a bit before today's round and 3-putted the 1st hole. I ended up with 5 1-putt greens, 2 birdies and 3 doubles. Show an 83 and my buddies couldn't get over how well I putted. Thanks for that great tip Wayne Kivi Cape Cod

Time to make some putts...where you from?
@RPerry-zs3hl Жыл бұрын
An easy way to practice with the putter is to take an alignment rod, or even an iron, and hold it under both arms just above both elbows and pin it to your chest. Take your putting stance and rock the shoulders back and forth and you will see the natural arc of the putting stroke. Do that for a minute or two on a regular basis and it also teaches you what square shoulders parallel to your intended line looks like and the minor adjustments needed in your grip for the putter face to form a right angle to the alignment rod. Give it a try…it works.

When putting, is there a certain distance one should take the club back for a 6 fter, 10fter etc. or does the distance depend on forward momentum?
@USGOLFTVshow2 жыл бұрын
Not really as all greens have different slopes and speeds.
@apaulmcdonough21702 жыл бұрын
The consistency comes in the Tempo. Once you are More than about 6 Feet away from the Hole, *the elapsed time from the Start of the takeaway and then back to Impact should be as close as possible to the same amount of time no matter the Length of the Putt.* As Putts get Longer, the "Backswing" does Lengthen AND so the Clubhead Speed must also increase to produce the necessary Rolling Distances.

The G-track is super easy to aim and is fully adjustable. If you tend to push putts (right handed golfer) you can move the shaft to the forward position. @apaulmcdonough21702 жыл бұрын
There are Two Reasons for a Right (Push) Miss. 1) Actually being Aimed more to the Right than you believe you are. This could be Your own Aiming, or having the Face Aimed more to the Right than you are "seeing". 2) Using a Putter that has Too MUCH Toe Flow. Or a Combination of these two. IF You are Aimed Correctly a Putter with less Toe Flow, even possibly a Face Balanced Putter will bring the Ball towards the Left (Pull)

Todd, thanks for another instruction, however I do not totally agree, from what I see your hand position, right hand (wrist) below the left hand (wrist) lead to a lowering of right shoulder. I have found, that my grip, where palms are face to face, wrists even, index finger pointing down along the shaft and other fingers interlocking, creates a triangle with shoulders level. This grip lets me swing the putter in straight line, simply by rocking the shoulders. My eyes are over the ball and arms are virtually straight.

I do disagree somewhat. For putts 6' and under you do not need to swing on an arc. If you have a face-balanced putter (which supports the straight back motion), the backswing distance is only a foot or less and does not require manipulation of any kind. I pick my intended line, draw the putter straight back a foot or less, pause while looking ahead of the ball at the intended line (from Dave Stockton) and then swing straight down that line. Pausing promotes accelerating thru the putt. I seldom miss using this method. I also putt cross-handed which reduces wrist motion. On longer lag-type putts, then arc putting and some wrist action is useful. My two cents from one of your experienced golfers. Chicago suburbs.

The shoulders are part of the movement, however not the main driver of the movement IMO. It is a combination of arms, shoulders and hands for the perfect mix. Make sense?
