Autotune was definitely a gateway drug for non-singers to be actual singers. I think Usher was saying T-Pain gave hope to trash artists. You couldn't go anywhere for years without hearing non-sanging artistg trying to act like they could. He should've elaborated. Without context, he sounds jealous. Edit: We have to be honest with the convo though. Jay wasn't referring to T-Pain on DOA; he was talking to rappers (i.e. "get back to rap. you T-Painin too much.") Also, T-Pain called out all these guys for using his style on 3 rings and said that he was only cool with Kanye & Lil Weezy (non-singers) using it.There used to be a time where you had to call a singer for hooks. People that have money can afford it. For those that couldn't, autotune was their savior. Just don't do a live show without it.
