This is a short excerpt from a video I'm mid-edit with. I wanted to make a KZbin #shorts video but I guess those have to be vertical videos....oh well, whatev's, haha!
But anyway, a while back I got an order to make 3 dozen serving boards for a high-end chocolatier and I'm finally getting around to the edit. I used the incredibly awesome bowl & tray router bit from Whiteside and in this short teaser you can see it in action!
Be sure to subscribe so you can see the whole video as soon as it's uploaded!
I'm using the bit with the 1/2" shank: amzn.to/3rB9Mu6
As well as a collet extension: amzn.to/3eqySIk
I also have the 1/4" shank bit: amzn.to/3laVjTd
and I've used that one for other projects.
Also, my Amazon Storefront* is where I've got a bunch of the tools and stuff I use on a regular basis: www.amazon.com/shop/stuffsethm...

Your finished product is top notch. My attempts at making the template went well; but the Bowl Bit in my router table never let me get passed scrap piece. Gouges, burns, varied depths. Tried different cutting heights, 3 different size Bowl Bits (an inexpensive Amazon set). My router is a Skill in a Skill Table, speed set at 2 (with 6 being the top speed). Any thoughts as to what the problem(s) are? I am not well experienced with routers and or using the table. I have used my little trim router for years with acceptable results. Are the Bowl Bits that tricky? Any thoughts offering possible fixes would be appreciated.

i don't know if bowl and tray bits should be used in the router table...i think maybe they're intended for handheld router use? Shallow passes are best to help control the router and avoid burn marks (but still get some). Maybe the collet in your router isn't holding the bit tight enough? maybe it's the bits you bought? I haven't had any problems with my bits. Watch my other video (if you haven't already) as it's a little more in-depth. Thanks for watching! Best of luck with your projects! 🙌🏻

Can you plunge straight down with this bit? Or do you need to have material at proper depth already removed

You plunge down, but in incriments. You don't want to go too aggressive (at least i don't). I'm about to upload the full video for this project..maybe tomorrow, so i hope you'll check back! 👍🏻
