I've got a Kirby vacuum cleaner hooked up to mine, that I've got plugged into a powerstat in series so I can manually control the voltage and thereby the fan speed. I was going to suggest that, but I just found out what one of them powerstats costs on the internet (but considering how much a Kirby vacuum cleaner costs new, if you can find a $10 vacuum you can find a $10 powerstat if you know what to look for.) If you can find one though, you can manually drop the speed down. Another option would be to have a valve and a fume hood, and just route any unnecessary air pressure out the exhaust to suck any airborn particulate and fumes away from your face. It is useful to me to know that I should be using very little air with the forge I am making, as I have been using quite a bit more than I need to.

I just picked up a coal forge today after working propane for a few years. Im stationed in Louisiana and have been having a hard time finding that coal around. Moving back up north next year and plan to order a pile similar to yours

Just an fyi for people out there. My hand crank blower broke. And you can use hair dryers for a blower it works quite well. Most blow dryers have 3 blowing speeds low, med, and high which is nice. 👍

You are ticking off the greeners! 🤣 That disk is called a stump jumper. What are clinkers I’ve heard about with coal forging?

Thanks for the info. I’m thinking my troubles are my old forge doesn’t have a bowl in center it’s just flat with like a maybe 4” round grate set in pipe that tees off to blower . Do you think I should cut out hole build a box or maybe build up around the inside with clay or something 🤔

The part from a bush hog is called the stump jumper. Protects the underneath from loose objects that can cause damage.
