I've been doing this for sometime, however i don't wait to trim off the excess. I usually do it right after rolling. This video has altered that. You have a much cleaner cut from letting it setup for a couple of hours. Thanks for the video! Oh, also, water works but so does a very thin coat of Vaseline which is what I have come to prefer. After the green stuff sets up, a light scrub with some Isopropyl and a tooth brush remove the petroleum jelly. Its a little bit more work, but its great at keeping green stuff from sticking to the roller.

Yeah Vaseline works a bit better, but the extra clean up effort annoys me ;) plus when I do these quick tutorials I try to make the content as accessible as possible, and not everyone keeps Vaseline and alcohol at their hobby desk. If it works for you though, definitely do it!

If you want to make loads more bases for your cash, use milliput. I take 1/3 of each part of the milliput, and 1/3 of a cheap plastercine. once blennded you get great detail, and loads more putty that cures rock hard, and it cures in 3-5 hours. If you dont mind waiting longer (24 hours for it to cure) then take 1/4 of each part of milliput, and 2/4 plastercine. you then have double the anount of putty you can get from one packet, and if you want to model any details the working time is greatly extended.

Is pinning the model on the base super important? Can I just put super glue on the feet of the model and glue it to the base how you normally would?

It gives the model a more secure attachment to the base so that it won’t just snap off, which can happen if you only attach it with super glue
