Using a repeater on the Yaesu FT-4X. The information I was missing.

Yaesu fan for many years, bought 3 of these for some friends/fam who are taking their test soon. I had the same exact confusion and your video saved me. Now I can get a few basics set up for everyone and once they pass their tests, they will have decent starter radios (I'm going to surprise them). Then I'll help them program up the rest.

Great info! Ive had my ft4xr for 3 years and use it exclusively. I initially used the software to program a couple of local vhf repeaters. Our club recently added a 70cm repeater and I easily programmed manually into baofeng belonging a newer member. It was sonewhat embarrassing that even after I referred to the Nifty guide I couldn't manually program the 4xr. Exactly the same issue as you had, and connected right to the 70cm machine. Except for this glitch, Ive been 100% happy with the radio.

I may have underplayed how long this took me to figure out. I was checking offset, different antennas. I was even on hold with Yaesu support while I was reading through the manual

@@VE7QH They sure need to update their online PDF manual. I only purchased this FT-4X because it was offered for fifty-nine dollars with any other purchase of a hundred or more. Menu driven HT's have always been tough for me to navigate. I got the tones in but will need to take a drive closer to the repeater for testing. Tnx, made it much easier on me.

Glad I could help! When I was trying to figure it out, I searched on youtube and couldn't find anyone who showed how to use repeaters with it. I found it by fluke because there is another menu item that you have to access through the star key so I tried it on the tone menu and it worked.

Just got my license today and 103.5 R versus 103.5 T was the reason I could get the repeater. I’ve been programming memories into the FT-4x for weeks and found the learning curve for me about the same as Android vs. iOS. I like the radio a lot but it’s my first and my only radio so far. Thanks for the video.

This is my fourth handheld and I asked Yaesu for a warranty replacement since I couldn't hit any local repeaters. That's when the technician told me.

Thank you! I bought this ft4 a couple weeks ago and have just about worn out the buttons (same buttons) and watched a lot of KZbin. I wasn't going to send it back but I was about to have a yaesu sized hole in my wall.

Same problem. Got all my facts and figures straight, and still couldn't key up the local repeater. Many thanks for your help. I've been a ham for over 30 years, and currently own 7 different radios of various brands and frequencies. All of my radios seem to have "undocumented" little things that need to be figured out to make them work properly. Again, I appreciate the help.

I almost sent mine back for an RMA because I couldn't get it working on my local repeater. I ended up trying the star button after reading through steps to do something else that uses the same button

@@VE7QH Overall I like the radio. The fix was something I wasn't even thinking about. I don't know why the manufacturers make some of their radios so difficult to program. I knew the radio was transmitting because I could pick the transmission on my scanner. The repeater wasn't hearing me. Thank again for a dash of radio "secret sauce". It worked. 73's n9twd

This video is painful to watch but somewhat helpful. This guy goes off on a couple diatribes that just delay information gathering. He is hard to follow with all the stuff about his problems mixed in. PLEASE edit this video.

The video is 4 minutes long. Is your attention span that bad? This is something I do on my free time. I'm not an expert videographer. And from what I can tell this video has helped lots of other people that have run into the same issue.
