I did all 8 spark plugs on my Silverado last month & this topic NEVER crossed my mind lol. Now im paranoid over something for future projects lmao. Learning how to repair the issue should it ever arise beforehand 😅😂

Great video. My car has aluminum heads and I’m hoping I’ll be able to use the male/tap chaser to fix the messed up threads. My car doesn’t like the rocker arm noise, especially in the long term.

Rookie mistake. When you are putting spark plugs back in, set your ratchet wrench to the side. Take the extension/spark plug socket and carefully put the spark plug in the hole. Turn the extension/spark plug "by hand" until you can no longer turn it with your hand and its properly seated. Now you place the ratchet back on the extension and tighten it only a 1/4 - 1/2 turn (see which is right for your car). and wallah done. It is IMPOSSIBLE to cross thread anything when you start a bolt by hand and only tighten with wrench when you are sure it is properly seated.

Some things on a car, you physically can not start with your hand. You’ll have to use a socket (no extension or ratchet) to “start” the bolt, and this can cross thread by itself. I’ve done it once with an LS1 header bolt (exhaust manifold m8x1.25 bolt) and currently with an m14x1.5 tear end differential mount bolt.

I hear ya! All is good now, but just part of the process. Now that it's over with, I enjoyed getting to work on it and exercise my brain. But that's only because nothing went wrong.

Take it slow and steady. Do not use any more force than necessary. Hopefully the chaser goes down clean.

I have a 2005 F150 with the 4.6 engine. The motor has 250k miles on it. I've changed the plugs about 3 times since it came into my possession. The last change over 18 months ago was really bad... the plug threads seemed really dirty from all the anti seize and dirt collection. I did my my best with an air compressor and got them seated. No problems with misfires or engine codes. I'm dreading the next change this weekend. Planing on soaking with a bit of carb cleaning (per Ford) overnight. Then chasing the threads on all 8.... My question is what grease did you use going in? Did you clean the grease off the threads before installing the plugs with anti seize? I am very concerned about hydrolocking the motor with too many sprays of cleaner in the plug hole... but gonna try and blow them out dry with an air compressor. Any tips or advice will be appreciated....

I used simple white lithium grease. I didn't clean it out after application. Ford recommends not using antiseize in these plugs (yours might be different since they're the 2 piece design). Also, you won't hydro lock it. It would take a LOT of spray cleaner. I used brake cleaner because it evaporates fast.

How come you did not put an oil catch can on the driver side of the engine? Is it needed?
@TruckStuff1
@TruckStuff1 3 жыл бұрын
You can add one to both sides or add a "dual valve" can that hooks up to both sides. The passenger side offers more benefit than the driver side, so when people only do one, that's the side that they do.
@seanmclaughlin7415
@seanmclaughlin7415 3 жыл бұрын
Is it because the fresh air is pulled in on the driver side and exhausted out the passenger side?
@TruckStuff1
@TruckStuff1 3 жыл бұрын
From what I've read, the driver's side will catch oil under boost and the passenger side catches under vacuum. Since way more time is spent under vacuum it's more effective there
