thanks for the very helpful video so the issue is speed and torque I have a moseley lathe with a watch craft motor, no countershaft since they're really hard to find, and a pedal I can control the speed with the pedal, but you're suggesting that without a countershaft the torque is not ideal?

I find without the countershaft, the lower the speed, the lower the torque. I'm not saying it's a hard and fast rule, it's just from my experience
