With the latest Elementor Pro version (October 2019), I now believe paid themes are only necessary if you need a quick design for a customer. Otherwise, it's better to use Elementor Pro's options to create custom headers and footers. It's now so easy to duplicate ANY website design with Elementor Pro, it would be a wasteful use of time for a web designer to use a paid theme with Elementor Page Builder today. Because I believe the stripped-down code in the Elementor's free Hello theme is ideal for creating exactly what you need. Paid themes come with so many un-used, irrelevant extras that take time to remove (or turn-off). Now the Wordpress design world will be turned upside-down. Geez, technology moves fast.

Adam, I want to encourage you to take a look at Jupiter X from Themeforest. They are now using Elementor as their page builder and the theme offers amazing customizations clear down to the checkout page if using Woocommerce. I tried this theme years ago and just wasn't in love with their page builder. However, now that they have incorporated Elementor as their page builder, this theme has amazing possibilities. Not only that, but some of the plugins that come bundled with it such as Jet Elements and others, make this theme have the potential to rocket past the favorite themes amongst the existing Elementor community.

I will stick with OceanWP + Elementor Pro combination. It works like a well-oiled machine with all these Woocommerce settings and other neat things.

I prefer a theme that offers the bare minimum, global control over colour, fonts, styles etc, and yes, plugin integration. All the other features/needs can be handled through plugins. If you want a directory site, get a directory plugin, same goes for classifieds, e-commerce and so on. I could never understand why do you have a "Construction" theme, and a "Dentist" theme and a and a and... All of these layouts/designs can be done with page builders. That said, I am a bit of a control freak (with what I do), so for me, full-blown themes come in the way at some point in a project. That is why I like themes like Astra, OceanWP and so on. Adam, I know I don't comment very often on your vids, but thank for the great work. You are my "go to guy" if need specific input on a topic, and you tend to stimulate the thought process (I know that in today's world that is a "no-no"... LOL).

Absolutely, that's the main reason you need a theme! Technically you need a theme anyway. Another reason are "Hooks" (like in Astra, GeneratePress, OceanWP, Genesis etc.) - Hooks are a WordPress essential, it's always good to have them for fine customization! ;-)

Hmmm... maybe I missed something in the video...? I went to the GitHub site, downloaded the zip file for the 'Hello Elementor' theme, attempted to install it into the site's theme 'repository' only to have the install give me an error message indicating the install failed due to a 'missing style.css file'... So, for grins and chuckles, I tried the 'add new' for plugins, grabbed the zip file for the 'Hello Elementor' theme, clicked 'install', and yep, the 'theme' installed into the site's plugin 'repository'... So, back to square one... What did I miss in your video...? Is there a zip file that includes the 'style.css' file...?

The installation failed for me as well. Go to add a new theme, search for "Hello theme" and you will find "Hello Elementor". It is a blank theme. I guess they renamed it.

Right now it's too soon to use page builders to replace themes however I think very soon page builders will offer 80%+ of what themes offer... Only a matter of time before casual users will just use page builders but power designers who need everything will work with themes for more complex / larger sites. Love elementor ;)

I’ve developed a site for a client totally using Thrive Architect, because the client is not writing and posting blog posts. If using a page builder solely for a site, then it’s important to build a base layout for the site including the header, primary menu, and sidebar content. Save that layout as a template for building other pages, including landing pages. My only struggle right is should I switch from Thrive to Elementor. The mobile layouts for Thrive have been a big problem for me.

This video actually made me more confused. At one point you mention Woocommerce will not work without a suitable theme. But shortly after you add that it won't work very well. The other reason I'm really comfused is that, I thought Elementor was a THEME BUILDER as stated on their website. So why do I need to choose a theme in order to use it?? With no hesitation I say that with Elementor I prefer to rely on a full featured theme, because they make developers life much easier. My favorite one is Astra which has replaced Genesis for any new site I build for clients.

It already has an included header & footer builder, and you can build any aspect of the site with the builder. I actually prefer it's interface over elementor's. Especially once elementor allows for the fonts, colors, etc. Why cant the new scenario be that all editing is done in elementor. I've learned to use Element with Pods and Anywher Elementor thanks to your tutorial. It's fantastic for me create a site from scratch without coding. I'm waiting that Elementor 2 come out from beta. But we come to your question. Now I can create all the templates I need, with all the plugins that I use, and than export them every time I need. I prefer this approach. And this is a question for you: when I create a theme with custom post type and all the templates I need, can I export all the structure to another site without re-install Pods and Elementor plugins so the customer don't see nothing and can't modify anything? This issue has plagued me for a year! Elementor don't even advertise their hello theme on their website. I found out a few days ago from a WordPress meetup. Might improve my site speed a bit siteroo.com.au - it takes like 7-8 seconds to load and I compressed all of my images and took out all the animations except sliders. I'm using Elementor Canvas page type atm and it's so slow. I've been looking for ways to improve my site speed, even as far as trialing Thrive Architect, Oxygen or BB., but they all seem similar, I think code performance varies though. Is there anything on full-width vs canvas. Full-width seems more code efficient. Also, how do you plug in blog post content into Elementor, do you just treat a text field as dynamic content? Makes sense! I'm about to test that now. I've noticed themes on themeforest.net (been testing on gtmetrix.com for the past 2 weeks) with WP Bakery or old Page Builders tend to be far more optimised and load faster (within 1.5-3 seconds - however a lot of themeforest themes are bloated with animations and background videos). But I really don't want to go back to back-end Page Editors, they're a horrible usability experience.

I feel like elementor took a step ahead but in the wrong direction. The blocks are a small step but really elementor needs a “default theme”. My main concern is that, if I'm building websites for clients, I don't want them to be able to use sites like wpthemedetector(dot)com and find out what theme I used to build their website. That's why I think if you're building websites for clients, it's better to create a custom theme from scratch (or from a starter theme like Underscore).

I personally don't see what's wrong with having the default 20XX theme and slap Elementor on top of it. Header, footer, page, and post are controlled by the template. Keeps the site lightweight, doesn't add bloat, and minimizes the upkeep. I enjoy the speedy deployment of pre-built sites with Astra, so that'd probably be my second go-to for a theme. That and the fact that Astra is very lightweight and doesn't add much bloat. With the new page blocks and templates from Elementor, you can survive on 20XX; unless you ABSOLUTELY had to have more customization or a specific need. Plugins, however, are an entirely different story... haha!

Now days almost every premium theme has it's own builder. Ordinary folks don't care as much about builders, they want to pay for the theme and get their website in no time. And that's is where Elementor is losing in this game. They really need to develop the theme, or themes for every purpose.

Any idea if they are going to make the "pro version" more affordable for us old farts with very little or less money? I Can't afford the pro version, It sure would be a game changer for developers and their bottom line.
