Why limit yourself? Even if You would be i.e. pro wedding photographer, it doesn't mean You can't make photos of other things, right? Over the years I used to squeeze as much as possible from my camera to make my pictures as close as I want them to look. At first with analog camera and then from years on digital ones. Some time ago I decided to edit some photos from the past but I'm not fan of heavy editing or polishing to perfection. Photoshop looks to me so complex that it's just repulsive, so last few days I was watching some of Your and Lizzie Lr tutorials and there are great. But I also bought recently Luminar and I'm glad that You've just released this tutorial and You are so enthusiastic about it, as it's UI looks even simpler than in Lr so I may just stick to it and use Lr only if will need some specific tool that's only in it. Thank You for that and I'm looking forward to more in-depth videos about Luminar. Category doesn't matter form me, as I'm making all kind of pictures. But just as a hobby now 😉

"Should I become a bird photographer now?" Short answer: YES! I'm picturing you laying in a shallow lake with a colorful Mallard duck above you swooping in to a water-landing, just as the eagle did to the stump. Getting wet is a small price to pay for a similar pic to the eagle, right?

I’m new to photo editing, and I asked for luminar for my birthday as I was interested in photo editing. I really enjoyed it and how easy it was to use. My mother’s birthday was very recent and I decided 3 days after my birthday to work for just over a month on photos from our iCloud of our family’s last 5 years, from 2015-2020 and our best moments. She was so happy and now I will never regret photo editing. I enjoy it so much and never want to stop.

I downloaded Luminar 3 months ago because I had a free offer. I just wasn't willing to give up Lightroom so I never used it, never opened it. Who knew it would work as a plugin! I'll test 3 and see if I want 4 now. Thanks for the video.

Definitely give it a chance. The plugin option with Luminar 4 is amazing. I’ve been using it heavily for the looks, AI enhance to start off the edit, sky replacement, and the portrait enhance tools have already saved me hours of masking work I’d usually have to do on portraits. Makes it easy to keep your workflow, just compliment it ✌️

ive been using lightroom only , but wanted something that gave a bit more all in one app , without going into a new app like photoshop ,which i have never used , Ive now bought Luminar 4 and not a clue how to use it , so watching this youtube clip has made things far easier to understand and I cant wait to use it now for my editing. I would love to see more indepth tutorials on the type features that existing lightrooms does not have.

Its not a game changer . Its a photo changer. You are literally replacing half the photograph with someone elses photograph. It might be technologically impressive but its not photography. Seriously.

Thanks for highlighting the features of this software in this informative video. I’m generally skeptical of the reduced creative control of automated tools like this. However, you’ve shown how Luminar strikes a great balance between what you control and what it does for you, such as with the ability to load your own sky images. I’m definitely going to seriously consider Luminar as an addition to my Lightroom workflow - so helpful to know the software works that way so I can make a smooth transition with it!
@TheLucyMartin4 жыл бұрын
It is definitely a complimentary software, and because of the ease of use I am building it into my workflow more and more. I agree with you in that, I find the AI here is built to help you bring out your creative goals. It doesn't really push a specific look or style on you, but definitely helps to enhance and level up the edit in my opinion. I've been using it now for a month and find I keep going back to it for some of my favourite features :)
@phlotographer4 жыл бұрын
as you spend time with the product or view the many other tutorials created by many folks, you will find that it offers most of the creative controls available in other software. Lots of color adjustments, LUTS , masking etc. Unfortunately, some things that can be done on a MAC are not available on a PC. This tutorial just was intended to show what the Ai capabilities are and so much can be done with simply using those features which Lucy so well points out. One thing with sky replacement to keep in mind that you can create your own from camera and then save in folders based upon direction of light and be sure to maintain that when adding a sky. Sky replacement also has lots of refining tools if needed. HTH

I have been using it now flat out for hundreds of edits and nothing beats it for speed of editing, perfect black and whites and all round getting the right look for each photo. Some times you struggle with the right look for each photo and you might need to jump around a bit to find the direction to fit the photo. Nothing beats Luminar for that. It is not perfect by any means but in conjuction with Affinity photo there is nothing I cannot do. Any bugs between the two programs pail in significance to signing a subscription with Adobe.

Super helpful video Lucy so thanks but what are the specs of your computer? I installed Luminar to have a play around with it and it feels so incredibly slow compared to Lightroom. My PC isn't cutting edge but its ok, 4 core, 8 thread, 4.5GHz all core, 32GB RAM, very fast NVMe SSD but everything just feels so laggy when changing settings or moving between photos. The tools are really great and it does let you apply some great effects but there is no way I could use this for a full project as it would kill me!

Great video, Lucy! I assume that the program processes RAW files. Regarding sky replacement, I read somewhere that the replacement sky must be in the JPEG format. Also, I'd like to know if sky replacement works in an irregular background, such as sky seen through a clump of trees. Finally, if used as a stand alone program, is there a way to organize your photos? Thanks again. Mike Flood
@phlotographer4 жыл бұрын
L4 has its own Library system similar to LR. The skies used for replacement can be .jpg or .tiff but the ones included are .jpg. Now if you want, you could photograph skies in RAW, process and save and then use as a replacement. I don't bother but take the image in .jpg. Just keep in mind that Skylum is going all out -- proposed for the end of 2020 -- with Ai and the code is different so work done in L4 will not be transferable to LAi except as an exported image and while Looks will move they may not look the same. L4 support will end 12 months after LAi is released. LAi will learn from your editing style but will also allow for individual adjustments. L4 will always work but after 12 months will not receive updating and may never be equal for Windows to MAC platforms.

Nice review of luminar 4. I have this software but the main presenter of the how to videos needs some help. A more energetic and enthusiastic presenter would probably get me to watch and understand the additional features this software offers. Luminar definitely excels in lanscape applications and while the portrait feature is better than some in my opinion potrait pro 2020 excels here. I wish the two would collaborate because they each have features i like and joining forces could be a benefit. I am keeping my vision open and taking some sky images along with some landscapes for the purpose of compositing them in luminar. Thanks for keeping this in the forefront and reminding me to keep trying this product. Juan from Jlphotographyusa.com
