Remember the days of DS download play? Literally would send any of your games over the air so your friend could play multiplayer with you on their device. I think you could have up to 16 devices on the same "mesh" network, no router needed. Tech ahead of its time for sure

I spent hours to search for a way to share files between my android and my mac. Neardrop is good. Also found KDE Connect, able to transfer files and clipboard back and forth between devices. Nice piece of software.

They're dropping the Zenphone lineups 😢it didn't sell well and it wont get updated anymore. People say it's because of the small screen but that's just not true. Many people including me want a smaller phone. It's probably because just a lot of people don't know about it, and also Asus isn't really a name casual buyers are familiar with. Hopefully reviewers won't blame smaller screens for this.

There's a really cool one "KDE Connect", and that allows this, and much more. Plus it's from the KDE Team, so it's open source. Works on Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS... Doesn't do only file share, does a lot of neat features (clipboard share, file system share, remote control...)

Apple really needs to let this segregated ecosystem go. I'm an advertising & marketing professional and need to switch between an iMac, MacBook, desktop PC, Samsung phone & an iPhone 5 days a week. I had to get both Google One and extra iCloud storage just to make my workflow easier. They make me want to switch AWAY from anything Apple rather than go all in. It's not like all software or applications work on an iMac, anyway.

That’s why I just use one drive on all of my devices, then I don’t need to send files. Just be logged into my one drive on all devices and anything I upload to any folder is automatically accessible to all other devices connected to the internet within seconds. BUT I can see where in some scenarios a person may benefit from a feature that allows sending to and from devices.

SMS was an open standard. iMessage protocols were just so much better. Open standards are, don't get me wrong, great... but they are usually not consistently implemented.... and in many cases, are kludges. There's a reason people use AirDrop... and it's great that a company influential like Apple is coming up with useful features that are emulated. Why would you not want that?

The last time i owned an ipad i used feem to transfer files. Its limited in the mac side as far as ehat then has access to the files after transferring yhem, at least it did in 2016, but it was fast, simple, and just worked.

Or Use KDE Connect Not only just senting files... notification sync, media control, shared clipboard, air mouse... , remote mouse...... keyboard and 20 other fearutes Between any 2 devices (android,linux, windows, ios, mac....) Completely open source... and works on lan, so no data leaving your home ( use tailscale for over the internet access)
