Clete Kushida, MD, PhD, Stanford University Medical Center, Redwood City, CA, presents the findings on sleep apnea prevalence and detection using an under-mattress monitoring device that records movement, respiratory rate, and heart rate. Data from over 150,000 individuals revealed higher risks of sleep apnea with age, particularly after age 50, and in females. Additionally, a three-night monitoring period proved optimal for detecting sleep apnea, which has implications for overnight sleep studies. This interview took place at the Sleep Europe 2024 congress in Seville, Spain.
