Using Civil 3D Property Sets to add extended attribution to ANY object.

In this session we'll explore an undocumented feature of Civil 3D called Property Sets. Using property sets we can add custom attribution to any object in a Civil 3D drawing. This additional metadata can then be leveraged by Navisworks or BIM 360 Glue as a project moves through the design and construction phases.

Very good!!! However I have a question: may I use geometric properties of civil parts to define expressions in Property Sets? Let me explain, I need to use pipe slope to create an expression and I can find nothing more than "cosmetic properties" (color, layer...) available in list. Is posible to use these civil properties? Where can I find them? Thanks a lot.

hi.when i exported to nwc, GUID value is shown in Navisworks Item -Tab. Is there any formula that i can add GUID value in Property set in Civil 3D as well?

hey Jeff. Could you help me? I made a subassembly using the subassembly composer and i named the shape code ( for instance: "subbase" ). Now i'm trying to assign this name to the subassembly in Civil 3D using property sets formula, but i'm having trouble locating where this named shape code is, so that i can "call it" in the formula. Jeff, I have tried this function in Civil 3D 2016 & Navisworks Manage 2016, but experienced only some of the data properties been transferred to Navisworks. Is there any reason for this?

I found the solution for my issue, if I want to display custom properties for solid objects in Navis, I must export them to IFC. I did not test other formats.

If you are still having trouble viewing the Extended Data check the "Selection Resolution" to "Last Unique" it will work even for Autocad objects. Yr does not matter!

It really important to mention that this only works on Civil 3D objects and does not work on Autocad objects despite options that would lead you to believe that they do work, in C3D 2020. Now I believe this was changed in 2021 as there is a walkthrough in Augi showing how to put these labels on things like Polylines. In 2020 you never get the Property Set tab to show up in label style composer.
