Күн бұрын

We blew my gas budget on a 23mi ride into Lake Erie's Central Basin to find some deep late summer walleye. The big Lake Erie Walleye live in much deeper, cooler water this time of year and we found them in around 45 feet of water using dipsy divers. This video has some great tips on fishing on Lake Erie for walleye using Dipsy divers, including settings and setup.
Check out my other dipsy diver and jet diver videos!

Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.
Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes. He spends the majority of the year walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins.

@slimshadycustoms

Glad someone said it! On the other hand, leave your clickers on when they are in the holder and loosen up your drags so that they barely hold and you won't have to worry about watching the angle of the line. Even a small walleye will cause it to slip a bit and you will hear it click. Thanks for posting!

EXACTLY RIGHT, THAT CLICKER DRIVES ME NUTS, TURN IT OFF..! 😡
@dagolf06
@dagolf06 Жыл бұрын
guides are used to leaving them on because it let's them know when there is drag being pulled or when the client is reeling. They want to hear it because it let's them know how fast they are reeling, which is very important with crankbaits. They can tell the customer to speed up or slow down depending on how that clicker sounds.

Just wondering Ross what rods you are using for your dipseys? They have nice action but backbone. They are not broomsticks which I see alot of anglers use.

What type of rods are you using for the dipsy's? I don't see any eyelets. Does the line run through the poles? I've purchased some from someone but never seen them before. I think they were some old Cabela's brand. Just wondering if they are the same.

If I catch them supper deep they usually go in the cooler. Of they are fairly deep I put them in the liveweel first and use some ballast weights to see how they do

There's one out there. Basically use a Hi vis line unless you have a very good eye in order to see when the line angle rides high and away from the 45 degree angle at water line

You west basin guys are funny. 44 FOW is deep? We are in the eastern basin where the walleyes are suspended 44’ or deeper over 90FOW or deeper on a regular basis & dipsy’s are mandatory if you don’t have ‘riggers or fish 5+ colors of lead off of big boards. Great video though. I’d like to see some on lead core for any tricks that are new to us.
@odochartaighofodonegal2351
@odochartaighofodonegal2351 Жыл бұрын
Using 6-8 oz. snap weights will give you great depth over shorter lead lengths- an 8 oz. on 60' of line at 2 mph will get you to 42'. Add 30 more to lead and you're hitting 55'. Not a lead core guy so I'll often run them with deep-diving cranks on 20' leads behind magnum boards instead of using the riggers.

He’s using really long leaders behind his dipseys so there is plenty of stretch already. Plus, walleyes don’t scream like Kings do. I prefer to use a stealth set-up myself (where you can remove the dipsey) vs long leaders. But that’s just my preference.

How important is the color of dipsy diver?
@oldmantod
@oldmantod 3 жыл бұрын
Ross has said in past that it’s kind of important because you want the bait to be the only thing to catch the fish attention. You will note all of his are black. IIRC somewhere along the way he spray painted some that were NOT black to BE black.

Why in the world is everybody throwing them stinking sheep head back smack them in the stinking head and throw them back for the birds to eat. They are getting overpopulated in Lake Erie. You cannot enjoy a day of fishing for walleye without catching a half a dozen or more of them stinking things.
