Legally probably not. Morally, they really just want to be able to positively ID you if you wreck the room. So as long as you're a good guest and don't cause any damage or problems, it's unlikely anyone would find out. I know Michael Bazzell back in the day said that using the hotel's app would allow for remote check-in without needing to even talk to the front desk at some places, but that was years ago. Things may have changed since then.

@@TheNewOil Thanks for info . I don't know how it is in USA but in EU country specially Ireland if you got to hotel or bnb u have to provide id , i went to uk (London ) once they ask for my passport .

I don't sign up for anything that I can't create the username and password myself as my credentials. I never use my e-mail or phone number for anything (I don't have a phone number). I created two G-Mail accounts before they required more information make and that gives me access to signing into KZbin and Tubi but I'll never be able to subscribe to Nebula or support my favorite KZbinrs on Patreon unless they start selling gift-cards in stores. Obviously then I can't shop online except for Canadian Tire Corporation because they understand, but I don't because they're a 5 minute walk from here.

I must say that I'm quite curious about the (apparently) staggering difference in the amount of spam, robo calls and text messages between citizens of the US and for example my Western European country. I'm going to be completely honest here: I've been using the same email address and phone number for over 20 years now, and my spam box gets about 5 emails a day (almost never gets a spam mail into my inbox), I've never had a robo call and maybe over all those years a total of 5 spam text messages. I'm constantly shopping online, making online bookings, using internet banking, etc. Is this regulation doing its thing? Is it simply not being a native English speaker? I don't know, but as a Western European, you simply don't seem to get confronted with that problem on such a scale... I do also have to say: for those few times I got a spam text message I've reached out to the company in question, told them that when they send me one more of those I'll be reporting them to the police and never had any issue anymore with them.

I'm not sure what the difference is. My gut says "data protection regulations." It's harder for companies to gather and resell data in the EU because of laws like the GDPR. They may not be perfect, but they offer you a lot more protection than we have in America - which is "none."

@@TheNewOil Laws only apply to corporations but they're less likely to be a nuisance anyway; spammers and scammers don't care about the law. Literally as I watch this video, I'm weeding through an address' webmail to clear out over 2,000 spams from just the past couple of months since the last time I did it; but it's a business email-address that's publicly-visible and has been scraped to high-heaven (yet surprisingly NOT on haveibeenpwned 🤨). One of my personal accounts that I've been using for over 25 years gets a LOT of spam too, but I suspect the OP has probably used theirs a LOT less than I have in those decades. As for phone-spam, spammers/scammers just "war-dial", they have their computers just call EVERY number (0000000, 0000001, 0000002…) to play the scam message so there's no avoiding it no matter how carefully you control access to it.

@@TheNewOil (That's why I now hate anything that requires creating an account even when it's not actually necessary, and will use bugmenot or dummy-accounts for anything I don't expect to use on a regular basis and will go to lengths to work around their feckless disposable-mail-ban-lists. 😒)
