Regarding the transcript, I've tried to use the three dots for the transcript, however it's not working for me. Is there another way?

I have a match like that where the dna Manager evidently labeled the kit wrong and put the wife's name when it was her husband I was related to. Problem was, she really didn't believe me that something weird was going on until I sent her a pic of my match page showing how it looked and she was surprised. Evidently once they are misnamed, it can't be undone.

I had a 1st cousin my mom and dad’s age. Because my aunt was 15 yrs older than my dad. So my 1st cousin was my dad’s generation. So I have a 1st cousin once removed that’s older than me. And I did that to my poor children too. My oldest was 20 when I had my 3rd child and 24 when I had my 4th.

Not only what kit matched but also they should mention the name of the tree they saw something in. I get many questions asking about a certain person. Many are not related to me, but to my husband's family or a tree I've made for a dear friend or trees made for children's in-law families. Great video! Much learned.

I've had third cousins show up with 53 Cm and 4th cousins sharing only 14-18Cm. It's so tricky, my mom matched someone who matched me with 55Cm(usually 4th cousin) but matched her as a high second cousin 298cm

You cannot be very young with a grandfather born in 1864.That is 158 years ago.I am 71 . My late dad was born in 1911 and would have been 111 years old this year if he was still alive.Do not know about my paternal grand parents save that they got married around 1900. My paternal grandmother passed on in 1964 (my maternal one in 1976). Bothe my grandfathers died before I was born . I would guesstimate that my paternal grandparents were born in the 1870s.. Well at 71 I AM old and retired.

how will you know if that person is related to you when you don't know your relatives?

how do you correct misinformation due to trees created with legal parents names vs biological parental names
@stephaniemayopehrson8683

You don't correct an adopted line for that is the legal line. However, you can create a biological line. I don't know the specifics, but you can check box the line you want to compare. Check boxing is done with different spouses.Preferred spouse or marriage shows you what children are from what husband. If there is not a marriage date don't assume they were married. It may appear like a spouse on the line up. It could just be the baby daddy.

Loretta, welcome to my world! My wife has always known she was adopted at birth. We have her court adoption record in our living room, in the same simple frame her mother used when it was displayed on my wife’s childhood bedroom wall! She had zero interest in discovering any biological family, but some siblings discovered her! Everyone was kind and they continued with mostly Facebook relationships. She suddenly added four full and two half siblings. Online commercial family tree software has improved dramatically in recent years. I was always careful to label her parents and biological parents specifically. My wife preferred her “real” mom and dad to be labeled as preferred parents. She never met her biological father (died years prior) so it was nonsensical to have him as a preferred father. He wasn’t. Sadly, various companies would try to connect DNA “suggestions” by using the preferred parent listing. It has improved over time, but it’s far from great. I have resorted to building a separate biological trees for my wife. It was the only way to pull apart her complicated ancestral linage. We want all the trees to be honest and factual. Just be careful when dealing with adoption’s. Everyone doesn’t know they were adopted. They actually believe dad is their biological father; there was no reason not to believe this to be true. Or, another family member took her step-father’s name at seven, and used it for the remainder of her life. She requested her Headstone to read, “The Daughter of Mr and Mrs _____” and she is buried next to them. Three years ago, I discovered a “reissued birth certificate” where her mother (buried next to her) clearly named her daughter’s biological father (burial location unknown). Do I “correct” the headstone? Oh, no. Because I know her mother provided the corrected birth certificate information, I believe it is accurate. But the biological father, while named on the certificate and in her records, is not a preferred anything. He will never be excluded from the record, but her family knows her “real” mom and dad. They are named on her headstone.

People can choose to do bloodline trees, foster trees, adopted line trees, and trees that they don't know what they are doing at all. It's their tree. And God knows there are a zilliion trees online that are very wrong just using the wrong hints. If others do not know someone was adopted or had a child out of wedlock, I would leave them alone about their treee as it could create a family breakup in some cases if it's close family. If it's far in the past like great great grandparent, they may ignore you or argue. I have found over time it's just best to leave others alone about their trees. If you are talking about your own tree, there are options under Tools > relationships (Ancestry) in the parent profile to change a child to step or adopted. I have given up doing tree work on FamilySearch due to fact I don't feel like correcting people's "trying to do genealogy" errors, so I use that site just for record searching.

Most of the classes are just spoken too fast, pages are too small to see and find the appropriate point of screen being talked about. Since there is no syllabus I try to take notes but cant keep up with swiftness of speech. Also some speak with such an accent it is hard to understand. I really want to learn more on these subjects but what can be accomplished in five to fifteen minute segments? I just found it quite confusing. I would be happy to pay for a syllabus or have fewer classes that last longer.

Pauline, just below the screen you can see three dots ... tap on them and click open transcript and then you can select and copy the whole transcript to read. When you are finished - tap on the three dots again and click 'open transcript' to toggle it off. Best regards
