Using Elimination to Solve Systems

👉Learn how to solve a system (of equations) by elimination. A system of equations is a set of equations which are collectively satisfied by one solution of the variables. The elimination method of solving a system of equations involves making the coefficient of one of the variables to be equal in all the equations that make up the system, in order to eliminate the variable using subtraction (or addition as the case may be). The coefficients can be made equal by multiplying the entire equation with a number which when multiplied to the coefficient of the variable to be eliminated gives the LCM of the coefficients of the variable to be eliminated in all the equations. Then we solve for the remaining variable(s).
After we have obtained the solution{s} for the remaining variable(s), we substitute the obtained solution into any of the original equations to obtain the solution of the eliminated variable.

Why -2 and 3? Variable X is his chosen elimination (3× and 2x). -2 (3x) = -6× 3 (2x) = 6x , and now you can eliminate it. You can pick ANY factors. Make sure the factors you going to pick will produce the SAME RESULT but OPPOSITE SIGNS as you MULTIPLY it by CHOSEN VARIABLE so that you can eliminate it and also don't forget to multiply the whole equation by the factors you chose.

Do all of your classmates have problems absorbing what your teacher says? She might be teaching too fast and not pacing to everyone in the class. Might not even know it unless someone tells her. Or, as you suggests she can't teach. And you can understand Mr McLogan better at your own pace in a comfortable environment. Some classmates can be a bit precious when they know a subject well and not willing to help. Don't give them the time of day. If this channel helps you through your Maths just stick with it.

It doesn't have to be opposite integers( the variables you choose) if the same variables are the same then you would subtract. But I understand why you would have opposite integers so the other variables/coefficients would be positive, but just sayin sometimes it's easier to subtract the equations.

My teacher sucks so I found a new one, I’m not sure what I’m going to do when I get an assignment you haven’t done. My teacher is fresh out of Uni and he is super smart, has a Masters of Mathematics, but can’t teach to save his life. He gets distracted and an assignment that should take 10 minutes to explain takes the whole 50 minute class. It’s ridiculous. Thanks for making these videos!

a negative times a negative is a positive, I do not know where you are referring to in the video but I assume at 7:16 where I am adding a negative to a negative which would still give you a negative

when we have a negative and a negative we ADD them BUT the sign of the bigger number is the sign for the answer, for ex. -24-22 = -46(negative 46) because the bigger number(26) had a negative sign.
