Using Expanding Dies M dies & expanding plugs w/ Cast Bullet

Very well shown. Awesome video for new casters /loaders. This was why I went with Lyman for my pistol dies when I started reloading years ago. I got the famous Lyman "M" die in my pistol sets. Now in 2024 Lee is changing ALL their pistol caliber powder thru expander plugs to 2 step "M" style powder thru plugs.😊 Also Redding has their dies for progressive presses that they call their Redding Nexgen "Pro" Dies (for Progressive Press) They also use the "M" style 2 step expander that expands and flares.😊 I believe its in several of their other die sets as well. Maybe Lyman's Patent ran out on the "M" die. Or maybe the other die companies got sick of all the bullet casters complaining about their expanders for decades. Who knows regardless we now have 4 have options for brands of M style dies/powder thru dies. NOE Molds beat all of them at making the much Needed 2 step expanders by many years! Well done NOE Molds! (Besides Lyman)

I also have the E. H. Harrison book. It is a real treasure, full of many tidbits that are rarely, if ever included in other cast bullet literature. I re-read & refer to it constantly.

Wish i watched your video earlier. Trying to reload 454 casull and shaving the lead and cases. Just using the basic lee set. Guess I definitely need some flare. Thanks for the info

I mill a slot in the side of the Lyman M-die. Makes it much easier to adjust the correct depth of the plug.

Just a FWIW Lee Precision now has "M" style 2 step expanders in their powder thru expander dies for progressive presses or handloading 1 at a time. Lyman of course invented the "M" 2 step expander and has it in all their dies. Redding also has the 2 step "M" style expander in many of their die sets. NOE Molds did a great job at making these much needed plugs as well for many years. ( I think Lymans Patent on the "M" style 2 step expander finally ran out.) RCBS and Hornady have not come out with any 2 step "M" style stuff, but who knows if they will someday.
