Omg, thanks you so much this was so helpful. I was always at a loss with what fonts I can or cannot use. You have made this so easy. Now I just have to figure out which font to use 🌸

I'm so glad it was helpful! The best thing to do is always read the license the font comes with. Definitely check out the freebies, they have some amazing free fonts that are all ok for commercial use. 😍

You have answered so many questions I've had about uploading and using fonts in Canva. I now feel a lot more comfortable using those cool fonts I always see on Creative Market. Thanks! Mega-value 👏

Courtney I'm so glad this helped! I'm truly a graphic and font addict. I just love them so I did tons of research on making sure what I could and couldn't use. It was kind of confusing so I was hoping this would be helpful to everyone. 💖

@@thecanvanerd if we wanted to keep using the Canva free option, would you say it's safe to just check to see if the font you're using in there is for commercial use instead of downloading the fonts into there?
@thecanvanerd2 жыл бұрын
@@jessicaprice6455 if it's a Google font, it's a free font and you can just simply use it from Canva and not worry about uploading it to Canva. If it's a free font, you do not have to upload it. If it's a font you have to purchase and it's already in Canva, you don't have to upload it either, but I would purchase it. I love the Apricots font but it's not a free font, so I purchased it and have the file but I didn't upload it to Canva because it's already there. 😉 Hope that makes sense!

Hi, I still have questions. Canva licensing agreement makes it sound like we can use their fonts tagged "free" or if we have a Pro Subscription (which I do) and export designs (like logos and social media) for business use without acquiring additional licensing. Is this not correct?
@thecanvanerd21 күн бұрын
The free fonts are fine to use in designs that you sell or things you create to share online. You can create a logo in Canva but if you use any - any element other than a line or shape - that logo cannot be trademarked. If you were to create logos to sell, again if you use any element from Canva other than a free font, line, or shape, then it must be a Canva template link that you provide to the customer. The creators from Canva who make all the elements get paid when their item gets downloaded, so if you create something using one of their elements and sell 10 of those items without using the template link - they get paid once instead of the other 9 times they should have been paid for. Does that help explain it a little better? I know it's super confusing.

Hello, I have Canva Pro, can I use Canva fonts in my commercial product?:)
@thecanvanerd6 ай бұрын
If you are using the free fonts it should be ok but technically Canva gives you a one-time use license when you create a design. My suggestion to be on the safe side is get a subscription to Creative Fabrica and use fronts from there. That genuinely eliminates the concern that there could be copyright issues later. What kind of products are they?

Hey Willow, thanks for bringing light into darkness. But I still got a question (@Willow or anyone who BOUGHT fonts for Canva): Which kind of licence is needed when I want to BUY a font for usage with Canva? The one I really need (corporate identity) isn't free. This is totally confusing. Desktop license? You don't install the font on your computer. Webfont license? You don't embed it with CSS... What else? I'd really need help on this one, thanks in advance if you got an advice.
@thecanvanerd Жыл бұрын
@lechuck-xs4tr A desktop license does allow you to install the font on your computer for use in print or static images. And yes, you can load that font to Canva and use it. The desktop font license is a commercial license. Webfont licenses allow you to embed the font into your website or email. For fonts you want to use in Canva you will want the desktop license. 😊

The Canva features mentioned for uploading fonts requires the user to have Canva Pro, would that mean if the customer buying the digital product has the free version of Canva, they will need to upgrade to Canva Pro before having access the the uploaded fonts?
@thecanvanerd Жыл бұрын
That's a great question! Based on my experience I've found that if I upload something I've purchased to Canva and use it in a template, the customer has been able to access it and download it without any issues. The only problem is that I have no way of knowing - 100% sure - if everyone who has accessed those templates has the Pro or Free account. The only time I've ever run into an issue is when it was a Canva Pro element or font that was used and the customer only had the free account. If you use a Canva Pro element or font in a template, the customer _must_ have the Pro account to download any "pro" element/font. Does that make sense?

So, all the fonts Canva has preloaded in their platform are legal for commercial use with their processes exclusively but not all fonts preloaded in Canva are legal for commercial use if I take that image with their text in it and use it to edit/update in another platform and then use it for commercial purposes?
@thecanvanerd Жыл бұрын
You are correct. If it's a template that links back to Canva to be customized by the end user then technically you are free to use it.
